If you thought wedging yourself among throngs of bloodthirsty tourists in the middle of sub-zero Times Square was the hardcore way to usher in the New Year, think again. This New Year’s Eve, Jonathan Peters introduces a new way to put your stamina and devotion to the test with a 24-hour-long party at the infamous Roseland Ballroom.


From 9pm, December 31st to 9pm, January 1st, one of New York's all-time favorite DJs will be presiding over a crowd of bass-fanatics and Dionysian debutantes, pumping them full of his brand of throbbing progressive house for 24 non-stop hours, taking no breaks and no prisoners. Clubplanet tracked down two of the masterminds behind this party, John Dimatteo of Area Event and Johnny Maroney of Central Entertainment Group (CEG), and prodded them until they revealed what else was in store this New Year’s Eve.


Jonathan Peters: A Glutton for Pleasure and Pain


"No stranger to endurance-testing sets, Jonathan Peters has been know to throw down 24-hour parties before, and has even played at Sound Factory for 36-hour sets," says John Dimatteo of Area Event.


No doubt that the nightlife industry of yore was much more open to these epic-long parties, before cabaret and after-hour laws began their stranglehold around the city. And having been a veteran fixture of the party scene for so long (seven-year run at Sound Factory, the longest-running epic party in New York), he ranks up there with Junior Vasquez and Danny Tenaglia as one of the city's legendary DJs.






What if I Already Made Plans This New Year’s?



Picture this: It's 4am and your confetti-ed, castaway butt is booted out of yet another New Year's Eve shindig. Rather than troll your way home and waste a great champagne buzz, why not stumble over to the Roseland Ballroom for some more daytime festivities? This event is a great after-hours choice to attend after all the other New Year’s parties have thrown in the towel. Not to mention, it’s only steps away from the action in Times Square so you and all your fellow frozen sardines can easily find refuge without having to hail a cab.



Who’s Hard-Core Enough to Go?



Devoted Sound Factory alumni, as well as newer hardcore followers drawn to Jonathan Peters’ music will be packing it into Roseland’s ballroom and balcony. “Die-hard fans swear to stay the entire time,” says Maroney. “Otherwise, people tend to come in several waves: 9am-4am, 4am-12pm, and 12pm-9pm.”


But don't worry. Especially before the balldrop at midnight, there are plenty of fun-loving, non "hard-core" types as well. People who have never heard of Jonathan Peters; they're just looking for one of the hottest parties in the city.


For the Young at Heart and Frugal at Best


Besides 24 hours of uninterrupted dusk-‘til-dusk revelry, there are a slew of other enticing reasons to head this way. For one thing, it’s the least expensive party of its size and caliber in New York City.


The $60 price tag dwarfs in size compared to similar large-scale parties featuring world-renowned DJs. It's also one of the very few New Year’s parties admitting those grey-area age-straddlers, the “18 and overs.” “It’s hands down the best 18-and-over party in NYC,” states Maroney.



A Psychedelic Orgy of Sights and Sounds


Another key bragging point is the state-of-the-art lighting and sound provided by RSA, the same light and sound technicians used by ClearChannel in their mega concerts for bigwigs like Moby, Fatboy Slim, and others. These audio-visual systems have been customized specifically for the Jonathan Peters sound and the Roseland Ballroom for this event, and will be sure to transport the audience above and beyond the confines of the dance floor.






Balling in the Ballroom



In it for the long haul? Then it would be worth booking VIP seating on the balcony of the dancefloor. The perks? “Comfort,” claims Dimatteo. “It’s your own little oasis away from the masses. A home base for the entire 24 hours.”


“The ultimate VIP area is like your own living room,” adds Maroney. Ultimate VIP privileges include table accommodations, bottles of liquor and champagne, buckets of water, a bucket of beer, event t-shirts, a private waitress, and your own private security guard. I can only wish my living room had such amenities.


Am I Ready for This?



When asked, what tips they have for partygoers, Dimatteo states, “Get your tickets early from www.NewYears.com. They’re selling out quickly and you don’t want to miss this one.” “And we’ll be serving breakfast so don’t worry about bringing food,” adds Maroney.


I personally recommend storing up on enough sleep and carbs beforehand before even setting foot at the Roseland... although I hear Long Island Ice Teas and shots of tequila are a good source of energy.
