Nuskoolbreaks.co.uk : Autobots – Broke’n’English (Broke/AfterDark) This is the debut mix cd from Huddersfields Autobots, a brave move in the current climate of mix cds. Why go out and pay for a mix cd when there’s so many mixes being given away for free? Reason 1: The ‘bots are on the top of their game on this mix. We’re not talking a tracklist of big tunes to appeal to the mixmag crowd, or a full on rinse out to simply satisfy that particular breakbeat beast that thrives on basslines that make you feel sick! Reason 2: The tunes themselves. It’s worth buying alone for the ‘Autobots Amen Glitchstep Mix’ of Backdraft’s mighty Labrat. Like some of the other tunes on here, you just can't get this anywhere else! These gems are teamed with heavy funked up numbers by the Plumps, Hi8, Krafty Kuts, General Midi and of course some of the ‘bots own crowd pleasers, including ‘This Life’ (featuring guitars from US metal giants Fear Factory). Jez and Tom deliver all of this with the help of Navigator and their trademark hard stepping mix of dirty funk and skanking bassline action. It’s probably one of the most diverse mixes you can buy that deals with beats this meaty…it’s a bit like Radio Soulwax on a diet of steak, chicken, and long punishing runs carrying a medicine ball. Breakspoll.com : Broke Recordings was set up in Dec 2004 by The Autobots and Deep Impact as an outlet for thier own releases, but they were soon accomanied by the likes of The Breakfastaz, Ctrl-Z, Screwface, Far Too Loud, Wavewhore and Specamin A. The broke ethic was always to feature top quality, energetic breakbeat, aimed strictly at moving the dancefloor, but in a variety of styles. Future releases will feature legendary American metal band Fear Factory, Legendary Jungle MC, Navigator as well as tracks and remixes from Icey, Klaus Heavyweight Hill, Roxiller and Aquasky. Broke will release its first cd at the start of march, in conjunction with U.S. based Afterdark Records. The "Broke'n'English" cd will be mixed by the Autobots and features tracks and exclusives from the broke regulars alongside many of the biggetsr names in breaks. Broke also started a sister label "Brock Out" in January 2006, due to the ammount of quality tunage stacking up at Broke towers. They were also one of the first breaks labels to have thier own download store, Fuckedupnorth.com, which they run with the manchester label Fusetrax. |
