Post CP NEWS: The Perfect Plumm

-Jeff Wilser

Think Marquee meets The Gates.

The Gates, you ask? How? No, not a long line of tourists. Not a bunch of glorified drapes that get knocked over by the snow.

But in the cutthroat world of New York hotspots, it's the details that count. And the "Gates-ish" details, the posh orange lights on the ceiling, help give The Plumm a sexy, glowing, decadent vibe.

Designed by Ann Dexter-Jones and Michael Ault (former owner of Spy Bar, Chaos, and Pangea), Plumm has a deep purple background--hence the name--and immediately launches into the upper-stratosphere of NYC nightlife decor.

Yeah, yeah, but what's the crowd like, you ask?

Hot. On opening weekend, the crowd was filled with the usual Marquee/Cain-esque crowd of models, socialites, and celebrities--ranging from Halle Berry to Michael Strahan. As for the music? When Q-Tip is behind the decks, you're in good hands.

Spearheaded by owner Noel Ashman, the celebrity investors (are there any other kind these days?) include Chris Noth, Jesse Bradford, Samantha Ronson, Petra Nemcova, Joey McIntyre, David Wells, Bo Dietl, Damon Dash, Ethan Browne, Ross Robinson, Simon Rex, and Jason Gainsley.

Taking over the spot that used to be NA, The Plumm has two floors of fabulousness, with a VIP area and, downstairs, a VVIP area. (Don't ask for the VVIP area. They don't call it that.)

The Plumm calls itself a "semi-private" membership. To get into certain areas of the club, you'll need a special keychain, much like Cain uses the coveted coin. And because celebrities work extra, extra hard and can't be bothered for much, they even get a "celebrity sound system," which lets them control the level of sound in different parts of their room.
