![]() | -By Dee Sampson Tiesto's journey is not about his countless awards. It's not about his euphoric productions. And it doesn't stop at the melody, or that ecstatic high you hear in your head the next day, when his set was at the heavenly peak, raising you higher and higher into the clouds of your own world. The journey goes farther than that. It continues on another plateau, a place invisible to everybody else--except the person behind this Tiesto rock star. Wondering who I'm referring to? When the music stops, when the crowd disperses, and when the club closes down and the sun rises for another day, Tiesto is laid to rest, and the idiosyncrasies come out to play. Tijs Verwest, known with the acronym Tiesto, is on his own “Search for Sunrise," his own expedition on what will be the next vendetta for his career--and himself. At the moment, his “In Search of Sunrise” was inspired by the arenaceous beaches and the diverse flair of Los Angeles. In LA, Tijs was entertained and introduced to “so many creative, interesting people." He says, "It's anything you want. It's up to you to find and connect with people that match your personality, and there are so many different sides to the city. Of, course music is an inspiration there, but I like the fact that dance music in LA is still underground, because hip-hop is so mainstream." "It inspired me more that dance is a small scene," Tijs says. "Not to sound cocky, but when I go to a club, people know who I am and in Los Angeles people know who I am in the club, but to a regular person walking no one knows me and sometimes that’s a good thing. I got to really experience Los Angeles for myself, instead of attracting so many people around me outside of the club.” Of his series, which he refers to as his “baby," Tijs says, “I plan on continuing this series, and it will still reflect where I am with my music at the time.” Tijs takes time to grasp where he wants to take himself. And not just with the music. He's not just the headphoned-star you see that entralls thousands of people; he's someone in search of his own soul. He speaks confidently, but with just a dash of humility, “I have been there. Done almost everything a DJ/producer/artist can do and I am ready for the next step." And what are those next steps? For starters, they deal with a charitable involvement, one that will soon be formally announced on his website. And then there's a possible acting career. As to the propositions for him to get into acting, he says, “I was interested in perhaps acting, but after getting to see what goes on, I would rather make music and not have to deal with producers being in control of how you are as an actor. I enjoy my artistic freedom.”
So what's really next? He beams with a grin. "By the end of the year, I will be flying deeper into my depth as a person. I constantly work on my philosophy 24-7, running, running-I tell myself, I know I need something, I am missing something. I tell myself, 'If you don’t live your life, people will live it for you.'" With an illuminating self-assurance, he compares himself to U2, “I know they have been around for 25+ years, but their career has always been developing. You look at them in concert and you can say as an artist that know what they are and that’s what I want in my music, that’s the message I want when I have gotten to that stage.” Tiesto wants that fulfillment in his music--whether everyone likes his message or not. Intensification and development have taught Tijs’ and his career maturity, but at the same time he remains to be the same person that loves to play small parties equally (such as pool parties that are in the back of hotels like the Victor in South Beach). To Tijs, when he djs, the passion disables his mind to his whereabouts, so wherever he plays is insignificant. Tijs Verwest is seeking knowledge and wisdom in understanding the nature of the universe, man, ethics, art, love, purpose, and about reality. The love, study, or pursuit of wisdom or of knowledge of things and their causes, whether theoretical or practical, makes Tiesto more than an artist but a philosopher. His own mantra lies within the lyrics of his track, “Just be.” Simple enough. Link To Original Article |
