Eugene

27 W 24th St

Why we love it: The diverse crowd. The funky spinning DJ. You have to go around the bar to actually get to the crowd, but the unique shape works to your advantage when trying to get away from not-so-desirable company. With a dance floor big enough to jam all night, the place easily converts from bar/lounge to hip-hop club on the weekends (which now begin on Thursday). With drinks strong enough to keep your head buzzed all night, Eugene is definitely a great place to start your weekend.

What we could do without: Even though promoters throw events there all the time, it's no guarantee. It isn't at all unusual to get to the door and be denied a promoter’s special (i.e. free entrance before 11pm)

Home

532 West 27th St

Why we love it: Including the fabulous pale faced diva at the door with the gorgeous lips (that he claims are real, with a wink) everything about this place is absolutely chic. From the DJ who never spins a song that the crowd doesn’t go crazy to, down to the surprisingly accessible bar, Home stands out among the clubs on the 27th street strip.

What we could do without: Non-smokers beware; you will leave smelling like you lit up a pack of Marlboro’s all day. There must not be enough bouncers to get around to them. Also, the place gets packed so if you don’t like crowds, it isn’t the place for you.

Earth

116 Tenth Ave

Why we love it: Why wouldn’t we love Earth? Anytime a club disappoints, a bar doesn’t live up to expectations, or a friend’s party runs out of cocktails before the night is over (or you’re satisfied), head on over to this Bombay heaven. With belly dancers to entertain the crowd, one of the best female DJ’s in the city, and a staff that treats you like royalty you will always come back to Earth. And enjoy a wonderful appetizer while you sip on a free vodka drink from 9-11pm.

What we could do without: Some of the rhythmless drunk people. The place itself is always great!

Fashion 40

202 W 40th St

Why we love it: Right in the heart of the fashion district (Fashion Ave and 40th Street), this relatively new spot is not only a nice lounge to just chill with friends in, it’s also a great place to bring a date. Just bring that lovely lady or lucky guy upstairs to one of the tables overlooking the bar and get close. And be sure to wear your best threads because the ladies and gentlemen here are out to impress. Unlike some other bars, there are many entry specials for ladies and gents.

What we could do without: The downstairs dance floor doesn’t have the capacity to hold the large crowd that the charm of the club brings. The last thing you want is to knock someone out when “Kryptonite” drops.



Savannah

7 E 48th St

Why we love it: If you’re looking for a fine chocolate man, sexy caramel sister, or a butter pecan anybody, Savannah’s is the spot to hit. With its Saturday night midnight special it becomes a hot spot for the hip hop crowd on the weekend. And don’t worry about catching the side eye from another fine lady or handsome guy, because everyone here is just out to have fun. The bartenders mix up drinks exactly how you like them, and you leave with money still in your pocket.

What we could do without: Sweating isn’t sexy when it’s profuse. The place gets so packed and hot that it can be uncomfortable at times. Bring a cold wet cloth if you can. You’ll need it.
