Privilege has just undergone one of the quickest remodels in the history of LA nightlife. Two Weeks. At one of the reopening parties thrown Tuesday Night, you could still smell the lingering aroma of paint fumes. The once rich, deep reds and mahoganies of the old Privilege has now been replaced by what looks like an attempted thowback to a Miami poolside bungalow. My friend Amber put it best: it turned out to be more Palm Springs cheesy than Miami heat. As we walked in we were surprised that the place was not that crowded – Fat Joe was going to be performing, it had just re-opened and it was 11:30 – where was everyone! But the spaciousness of our personal bubbles didn’t last long. I’ve said about other venues and nights out that a club was packed – this night put them all to shame – I think privilege’s thin walls were actually bending outwards from all the people and there was so much hot air in there the roof could have blown off. Paris and Nicky Hilton, along with her beau Kevin Connolly, brushed passed us in a whirl of expensive clothes and diamonds, sashaying to their table next to the DJ booth. I have never seen anyone more perfectly groomed than Paris, Barbie-esque is an understatement, while Nicky seemed more cool, confident and chic. Rick Fox was at the table next to us, and, happily, he was rockin’ a much better haircut than the mop-like curls he had as a Laker.
My friends and I were wedged onto the dance floor trying to make our way back to our table when I got bumped into, I turned around to see who it was, and it turned out that I had just bounced off of Fat Joe’s sizeable tummy as he and his entourage made their way through the crowd. About an hour or two later he took the mic, did a few songs, complained about the sound system and was done for the night. It was soon after that that I made my exit – I would like to think of myself as a seasoned club-goer, but there is just so much elbowing and so little air circulation that I can take. So I found the exit and made my escape into the balmy Hollywood summer night and waited the requisite 20 minutes for my car and headed home. Overall a celeb packed and sweaty experience, but what would living and going out in Hollywood be like without those nights? Link To Original Article |
