From the vibrant patterns of Carolina Herrera to the rich silks of Chaiken, New York’s Olympus Fashion Week buzzed with creative new designs from some of the world’s top designers. But forget the “oohs” and “ahhs.” Here's what you really want to know. “How can I wear that?” The answer: look for designers whose threads can easily go from the catwalk from the club, from the runway to realway.
Marc Jacobs
On the Runway: silver and gold metallic jackets, heavily jeweled bags, t-shirt dresses.
For the Realway: A t-shirt dress is one of the most comfortable pieces you can wear to the club (and practically anywhere). To dress it up and give it more form accessorize with a wide belt like the ladies did at Hiro this summer. Can’t afford Marc Jacobs? You can find budget friendly items at American Apparel for around $30 or $40.
John Varvatos
On the Runway: neutral colors, cropped pants, exposed seams.
For the Realway: For the daredevil gentleman, cropped pants could be the new stripey. With classic Chuck Taylors, a funky t-shirt and (of course) a fitted blazer any man could pull off cropped pants—even ones with exposed seams. With fall, well, pretty much here, most people will begin pulling out those neutral colors again.
Rock & Republic
On the Runway: skinny jeans, military blazers and creative tees.
For the Realway: This one is easy. Skinny jeans with a creative tee and a military blazer to top it off. Sigerson Morrison flats were a big deal at clubs like PM and Pink Elephant this summer. Perhaps they will continue into fall nightlife gear to give this edgy outfit the nightlife angle.
Tracy Reese
On the Runway: seer-sucker, short shorts, frocks and flowy floral dresses.
For the Realway: If you’ve seen the Jet-Setter episode of Project Runway then you should know, like genius amateur designer Michael Knight, that seer sucker is key. Anything that still looks amazing after an 8 hour flight to Paris is definitely worth rocking to the club. Also, the combination of short shorts with feminine frocks will rule at the club this fall. As the weather cools down simply add printed tights and replace those sandals with peep-toes. Colorful and fun patterned tights can be picked up at stores like H&M and Urban Outfitters.
