![]() | Forget fireworks. To hell with apple pie. And save the barbecue for your boring married friends. This year, the 4th of July is on the best of all possible days: Tuesday. So unless your boss is evil incarnate, that means a four-day weekend. To prepare you, Clubplanet presents another ten and ten: ten stupid factoids, ten hot parties. 10 Stupid Factoids 1. The 4th of July was not declared a legal holiday until 1941. 2. You know those "All-American" fireworks? They were invented in China in the 11th century. 3. The flag was made by Mary Pickersgill and her 13-year-old daughter. The flag was so big that no room in the Pickersgill home could fit it, so they took it to a local brewery where it could be stretched out. And thus began the American traditions of supersizing and boozing. 4. 150 million. That's how many hotdogs are expected to be consumed by Americans on the Fourth. (That’s one frank for every two people.) 5. The "Star-Spangled Banner," our country's ode to independence from England, is set to an English drinking song.
6. "Uncle Sam" didn't first appear during the Revolutionary War, but instead in the War of 1812 on supply containers. He wasn't officially adopted as a national symbol until 1861. 7. On the first 4th of July (well, not the first ever, technically, just the first Independence Day), the population of the colonies was 2.5 million. Or roughly the number of people waiting in line at Crobar. 8. Every 4th of July the bell is tapped, not actually rung. 9. John Adams said of Independence Day: "It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more." Too bad he was referring to July 2, not July 4th. 10. July 4th 1778, George Washington gave his troops a double ration of rum. So when your friends are feeding you shots, don't let George down. 10 Hot Parties 1. Oscar G at Amber Ultra Lounge 2. Armin Van Buuren @ Crobar Chicago 3. Freedom Fest at Nikki Beach 4. Avalon - Independence Day Weekender
5. The Soul – Full Saturday 6. Pre-Independence Day Soiree at The Plumm 7. Shampoo 8. Body & Soul Reunion at PS1 9. Space 10. DJ AM at Tavern Link To Original Article |
