So after running into like everyone and there mom from my past, I made it in the arena and watched Mars Volta. After about 10 minutes, I exited back to the lobby. I wasn't diggin' them too much and it sounded like it was the same progressive song. After patiently waiting for APC, they came on with mild force. The track selection was excellent, but I wasn't as pleased like I was when I saw them at Bronco Bowl. Overall, fun night and the money was well worth the show but I give the show an overall 7 out of 10.

You were like the only person I know that I saw there, Negaro, but then we didn't show up until ten minutes before getting to our seats, and then left as soon as the show was over. I dug it. I may give it a shade more credit than a 7, but I wouldn't rank it anywhere near a Tool show--and I've only tasted that once. Vanishing as an opener was some ambient sickness and when they unleashed The Package, I'd only wished I'd been in the pit to feel that monster. In fact, I wished I'd been in the pit to feel several of those monsters. We were against the back wall of the highest tier. Only way they would have completed the performance for me was if they'd played Rose and cut back on some of the mucking around. That exit was a good laugh and an easier way back into the stream of everyday life--as opposed to the disconnectedness following a Tool show--but it was still kind of anti-cathartic. Either way, that was the best concert I've seen since Radiohead last fall. (It was the only concert I saw since Radiohead last fall.) Big thanks to the Mark of Anti, UTD, USA. |

TOOL and APC= 2 Different bands! I wouldn't go to APC expecting it to be like Tool. Tool is the dark, mysterious in your face side of the spectrum, while APC is the melodic, start from the bottom finish at the top side. Manyard is weird too. I've heard that he doesn't like to play here. W/ Tool or w/ APC. He doesn't feel the crowd as much. ex. Was anyone at the Tool show where his back faced the crowd the whole set???

Hundreds have said it before me, but an artist who would prefer the masses' appreciation for his actual work over appreciation for himself, his image or his identity is a true artist. Sounds like redundant cheese, but I've no doubt that's what's behind Maynard's reclusive silhouette on stage. | |
