Well, I thought that the ghosts of "America's Pub" and "Coppertank Brewery" would possibly show through at EDGECLUB's premiere tonight, but I was pleasantly surprised.

One thing to point out. For being a club in Deep Ellum that isn't Seven, UROPA has got to do something about its "dress code". The listeners of EDGECLUB and patrons of most of Deep Ellum are mostly your average day person, not the jetset types who are out to dress to impress. If Uropa wants to survive, they have got to turn that nose down and lose the frown on sneakers.

Three rooms of goodness and a large inter-worked camera system show the goings of club-goers at all times and you get a choice of genres: contemporary dance and hip hop to your left and funky house and electronic to your right.

The settings are semi-lavish (barring the house room where you can lounge forever) and the system isn't too shabby (although not all of the speakers were on in the contemporary dance room).

DJ Merritt showed up and brought things into focus and kept it interesting until closing time. Overall, not a fight to be seen or any grief in getting to a restroom or to the bar for service. The place holds promise, but lets see how month one goes. . .

PS: Merritt, help a brotha out . . .get em to go lax on shoeware. Just because you wear sneakers doesn't make you a ruffian/hooligan/thug/lowlife. . .Danke!

Clubs with dress codes these days seem to either not survive at all, change the dress code, or change formats (spec. not edm).

But for Edgeclub's sake, I hope this works out. I'll put on some nicer clothes and check it out one weekend.

was there a late night guest mix last night? i tuned in @ around 1230 and they were at the club...i'm guessing i missed it... but whats the new edgeclub schedule now?

at the moment. Uropa doesn't have an afterhours license. So Edgeclub afterhours is unfortunately running from 12-2.(which is gay). So we're working on getting the license as of this week, so that it can run til 4am. But Im quite sure thats why there was no guest mix on edgeclub this past weekend

Seems like someone knows what the haps is at UROPA. Do you think that a dress code change is something attainable by the masses or are we doomed to see something else with promise go POOF like ninja? Clubs in Deep Ellum tend to do that when they are inflexible . . .

Hopefully so. I think with Merritt there, things will only get better. If he suggests that the dress code be changed, it would be in their best interests to listen to him. The cats at Uropa are really cool and open minded, they just need a little guidance is all. We'll see what happens within the next couple of months.

as far as Driton's lounge is concerned, I plan to throw some kick ass parties featuring the likes of Honey Dijon, Isis Graham from Canada, and Frank Solano of XESS in Chicago. I want to try and bring fresh talent that peeps have really heard of as well. So keep an eye out.

I went, too much riff raff for my likeing.

Think times square crossed with the lizard lounge.

Their bar appears to be impressive but upon closer inspection proves to be rather lacking.

They did not carry my top four vodka choices.......

*sigh*

Their sign is pretty cheesy too.

Oh well, what would you expect for a deep ellum club.

I was listening on the radio... after leaving the club from promoting... Merritt... you were ON FIRE! I was really enjoying your set!

I will have to drop by and party one night... when I don't have to promote for a show!
