Good seeing you. ...Good seeing everyone... Call or e-mail me at work next week. I could really use your input and expertise on a few things I got in the works.

contrare... IT IS HOUSE!!! That's what made the vibe so special back in the day..."house?" wasn't just about a 4/4 kick...the dj's would take the most obscure, crazy ass track and play it in such a way to make the crowd go insane. "House" is more than just a bpm/tempo...tracks like Savage Progresses' "Heart begin to Beat", the Clashes' "Magnificent Dance" and "Miss Broadway" are perfect examples of songs that aren't what the masses consider "House" BUT are cornerstones of what is considered "house?" in the 21st century. I guess there is some "mis-interpretation " on what House truly is. Just go to the deephousepage website and listen to some of the mixes from Farley, Ron, and Frankie(early to mid eighties) and you can hear disco, electro, techno and much more in the mix. Shit even the Detroit "techno" legends early tracks were considered "house"(a weird varient non the less) but still "house. I'm not making ANY of this up...the TRUTH is stranger than fiction sometimes.

no house has to have a 4/4 beat programmed with a Roland XoX + 1 bassline+ 1 diva vox+ 2 samples+ filter sweeps.

thats a joke

Sorry brotha, but I gotta disagree. I played Frankie back in the day when it came out on the first promo... and we called it new wave... or pop music.

On Sundays at Slip Inn, I mix Willie Nelson and Rage Against The Machine with Zap Mama and Biggie Smalls... ALL on top of a 4/4 beat . That don't make it house.

On another note... the comment about Frankie was a joke. I think there's a whole shit-load of DJ's in Dallas who need to look away from the stupid 'genre labels' and OPEN THEIR MINDS. When asked what I play, I say music. Good music. That's it. I wish there were more places I could go out and hear 'good music' instead of 'House Music'. Fortunately, Cle and Robert provided that Saturday night. Thanks boys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1 entry found for house music.

house music
n.

A style of disco music with a heavy bass beat, initially popularized in underground all-night parties held in abandoned warehouses.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[After (The Ware)house, nightclub in Chicago where it was first popularized.]

Yes you are correct in the fact that it was new wave or pop music...BUT if you were in Chicago in the 80's and you attended any of the spots...then u know what I mean...It could be WHATEVER but it was still considered "House".

Here's another example...the Chicago kids had a way of dressing and that was considered "House". One fashion item was "riding boots" worn mainly by polo players and jockeys(I don't know too many peeps in the inner city who ride horses)...this was "House" for those in the know...SAME THING APPLIES TO THE MUSIC...the kids took something and made it "House"

you may have called it new wave or pop...but if it had that special something...it was House.
