![]() | NYC in 48 hours...no sleep at all...loft..spirit..Paul van Dyk has changed..AMAZING!
My trip in 48 hours I would encourage you guys to read it if you have time: I woke up at 6am to catch the early flight out of Dallas into New York La Guardia. I landed in NYC around 12:20pm and later got picked up to head over to Central Park for PvD part 1. Well they kept saying "oh it's going to rain" blah blah blah, but I really didn't pay attention who gives a shit anyways. I finally got in at around 5:40pm and Paul shows up on stage connecting all of his stuff in making sure everything was going to work. As soon as he starts plugging everything you can hear thunder very very close. But since the event is rain or shine people knew what we were getting ourselves into. As soon as he cranked up the volume on the mixer, lighting shot over head and bam it started pouring like there was no tomorrow. The crowd began to yell at the top of their lungs and people started to go absolutely insane. Paul saw all of us getting absolutely soaked and did what he could. So after he mixed a track he requested a SHIT LOAD of paper towels, and passed them out to everyone that he could reach and told them to pass them back. That to me is really cool and shows that he respects and cares about his fans a lot. With the torrential rain and knowing for a fact everything in my pocket including my phone was soooo fucked, I didn't care. For those who know me, you know I don't dance really all that much unless I really get into it. Well, I can safely say for the first time in my life I danced from the first track to the very last and final beat outside. The laser show, the balloon balls they threw out in the crowd, the vibe...NOTHING and I mean absolutely nothing can top the vibe that was had at pvd. The people that braved the weather, stuck out the cold wet rain till the very end made it one of the most spectacular events I have ever been to in my life. Here are some pictures btw from the first part :Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3 <~~ damn it poured Pic 4 <~~ it got windy and cold, so the water started to fall on his "record" poor guy Pic 5 Videos so you see what I'm talking about :http://s2.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=B6...1C12C5B1833495 http://s2.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=36...7BF1604AD44396 http://s2.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=45...B3ECC15A352580 http://s2.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=42...745547DF615A29 The tracklisting btw for all you people that are curious. I really don't know half the shit he played. He DID NOT PLAY time of our lives, holding on to nothing (although it would've fit perfect with the "standing in the rain, twisted and insane" but I'm glad he's not drilling that into my head ), nothing but you, or any of his "classics." It was all fresh, new, and AMAZING. Every damn track was just...WOW. He built up every perfectly till the very last 30 mins when I needed him the most to keep me going. A lot of peeps got really cold and left since the temp started falling to the low 60s. But we braved it out, and he made me "sweat" so damn much .So after he ends his beautiful set at central park the tell us that he said he wants to stall an hour to let every one go home and change to get ready and come out. Well if you know the PvD addicts in New York, they'll haul over to where he's at in no time flat. So we go back to the house, change and shower. I get a little meal out of BK and head over to spirit (the old twilo ). From there we go inside and the first thing that I see is a fight . To make a long story short, in one pop...the white kid knocked the FUCK OUT this asian guy that was a bit bigger than him. I mean with the music as loud as it was you could hear the guys jaw crack.....DAYUM! So after that we head into the dance floor which is completely jammed pack with kiddos. As we finally fight our way to the front to get a good vantage point to see paul again, we look up and it's the man himself already playing away. He didn't want to wait a single a minute so he jumped on the decks an hour early. A lot of fucked up kids, but it was like his set at central park extended to a whole new level. He warmed us perfectly, now he went ahead and owned every single person inside that club to no end. It was great to see him back in the same place where it all started approximately 10 years ago. From the days when he used to play his long epic sets and go out the back door to take a piss on the wall and come back in to keep playing . The very last track, and every track he encored with was absolutely beautiful! I need to know what those tracks are, I mean I literally melted to the ground. After 10 hours of Paul I didn't have enough. I wanted to see him go for another 4 to 6 hours. So after being killed by Paul for 10+ hours, we finally make it back to the house and I've now been officially awake for 24+ hours. We sit on the couch and have a few beers, talking about how amazing his set was, and how we will never forget the moments we had together. So as we're talking, yapping away one of the guys hanging out over there gets a call on his phone about a loft party going. So we pack all our shit up, get some food down and head over to A BEAUTIFUL loft in Brooklyn. It was amazing how you could not hear the sound at all ANYWHERE...not even in the damn hallway where other people lived. Those lofts are so well insulated that when we opened the door to the loft the music came pouring out of the doorway. We walked in and they had a CD going and tables set up. So I was like what happen man why isn't there someone spinning? So the guy that owns the loft asked me if I would like to jump on. Of course I took the offer but I didn't bring any records up to New York with me. So he goes and drops 3 big crates in front of me to play with... So here we go...DJ Cubano on the decks for the unofficial PvD after after party . I will say this, that was one of the hardest things I've ever done. I listened to every record I could and mixed anything that sounded like they would go together. The record crate sounded like this (rap, house, trance, 80s classic, Trance, Phil Collins, House, Rap, Rap, Trance, Breaks) I mean it was just a huge pile of random records. Well to make a long story short, I ended up playing one of the longest, best sets of my entire life (Karen you would be so proud on no sleep ). I just ended up finding this groove and sticking to about 132 bpms playing everything from progressive to breaks, to melodic trance, back to house, into some funky shit, then back to breaks. At first I was having some trouble finding some record to go together but I ended up finding my groove after about 40 mins of searching. I even played the famous "Fatboy Slim - Santa Cruz" that left everyone absolutely speechless and floored. I never realized how amazing that song is on a loud system . The vibe that go built in the 7+ hours I was playing back there was the best vibe I've ever experienced playing. Everyone there was in the same situation. Hungry, tired, no one has slept, worn out....but for those few hours it was like nothing in the world could stop us. For close to 7 hours I stood behind the decks playing and enjoying every single minute of it. I even pulled the famous "exiting around back, pissing on the wall, then coming back in to keep playing with out stopping. I even mixed in some tracks off of Sasha's new album Involver i.e. track 6...OMFG!!!! But I did reach my high point and my legs began to hurt so bad from standing since 6pm the other day that I was literally about to collapse over. But once I got off I got soooo many compliments from people who were absolutely shocked and amazed that I could build such a beautiful and intimate set off of records and tracks that I never heard in my entire life. I had a girl come up to me crying telling me that she never heard anything so beautiful in her entire life. I basically told them all that I owe most of my accomplishments to the locals here in Dallas. If it wasn't for them for opening my eyes to such a wonderful world of music outside of trance, I wouldn't be playing those kinds of sets and I wouldn't be so appreciative of what all of you spin, let alone the amazing amount of electronic music that there is out there. So now pushing well over 36 hours we went back to the house to grab another meal. We made the best of our time together...I ended up taking a taxi and flying out of LGA at 7am easter time with out having one nap since I woke up from when I left Dallas. Sorry this is so long, but I thought I would share the amazing weekend I had of music, adventure, meaning, and pure bliss. I wish I could've shared this experience with all of you, but I hope you all get the chance to experience trance the way it's meant to be heard. Not with a bunch of noises and long synth break downs..but with progressive, breaks, and house mixes all together to create a sound so euphoric that your ears wouldn't believe what they're hearing. Last...a little Message from the man himself, Paul van Dyk on the amazing vibe and atmosphere that was had at CP and Spirit: New York - Friday 25th of June Hello,I would like to thank each and everyone of you who attended Central Park Event on Friday evening and made this years event so very special. Heavy rain for 4 hours couldn't stop you - thousands of people kept dancing at Rumsey Play Field and creating an unbelievable vibe and atmosphere that the city has never seen before...New York - YOU ARE AMAZING! Paul van Dyk

*Side note: I don't do drugs period. I didn't drink one red bull, no yellow jackets, absolutely nothing. I was 100% sober, and running on pure adrenaline. To me, no drug can ever create a feeling more amazing than that.
