Not to call the person out, but the original post in this thread answers all of our questions. Feel free to insert your favorite genre wherever you see the word house.

Global Unity through house music.

After seeing this, it made me think of all the people out there with the sincerest of intentions, but somehow lack the one thing that really defines house. My intentions are not to belittle or berate. I may do that publicly, only because I too am not perfect. In my time, I have seen all sorts of good, bad and indifferent in house culture. I don't think those kids were right to throw things and cause such a disruption. I do think it could have been prevented, had someone with the will to diffuse those kids stepped forward. I know I have in the past in just the same situation. But I have seen worse. Case in point: about 10 years ago, there used to exist an abandoned loading dock on the same land that now sits the AAC. Paper Love was a place where many people came together and grooved. Names are irrelevant, but there was no finer experience than to be there dancing while some dj rocked beats. All the while staring up at the city of Dallas.

That all stopped the night some dummy decided to push a 22 slug through a young kids body. Thank God, it passed all the way through. He lived.

It didn't matter to me whether or not the party was going off, what the DJ was playing or where I was.
All I remember thinking was damn, why can't people just exist without having so many convictions about others? Why can't people just feel the way I feel right now?

Because that's the way life is. Sucks. But with music, many people get by. They learn this through the proliferation of things such as parties like you and I attended on new years. I sincerely hope the next time you encounter the opport-unity to effectively change someones life for the better(maybe at a party), that you will make that move.

Because that's promoting unity. That's house.

thanx mike

that cheered me up a little

maybe i'm naive or cocky or just a moron

but i thought that maybe if we started em with hiphop & funk maybe just maybe we could pull them to our side. have some wonderful unity. just grooving to the music.

i should've stayed in the back through the transition.

the transition was the hard part. i knew if we could get through the transition we would outnumber them & it could be a damn good time.

december taught me that sometimes too much diversity is not such a good thing.

homeless guy at plush & children at roller*disco. & even though i recognize them as humans, but i don't want to hang out with them. exclusivity gives us comfort.

what did mike say? 'someone with the will to diffuse those kids"

that is my job. i'm fucking good at it too. but somebody had to tell me. i don't expect u guys to diffuse crazy. mama will do it for you. but u got to let me baby.

2 ways.

before the fact make it 18+ and start at midnight. even the worst ghetto crack mama wouldn't drop her kid at midnight. & i met some scary mamas.
if i had set it up like that there would have been no problemo at all.
Point for future consideration. You can always aim to make something better, so just look at it as wondrous hindsight.

i PROGRAMMED mike & mark to play for the kids. play hiphop & funk. & they LOVED them. they were in awe of mark scratching it up without headphones.
i forgot this was the ghetto. silly me thought they would go home around 1 (which they did actually)
The aforementioned means that you put some thought into what the venue was needing and confered it with some of the artists playing that night. Was it just to those few alone or the whole of the line up? Maybe you expected the others to follow suit. I don't know. That is another point to reflect on.

You can take the blame if you want, Suz, but in the end as you said, you meant well. Walkie-talkies may be in effect for next time, but until you can clone yourself, you can't be everywhere all the time. Communication AT the location is what I would blame.

You know you have support for whatever you decide to take on next from here.

Keep your head up and that vision in your sights.

I sure as shit didnt see a lot of unity going on in this thread ESPECIALLY from any of these perveyors of "global unity throu house music"

You know Mike, you talk alot of ways to people on this site but I've hardly ever seen you do it the right way.
Not everyone likes EDM and a lot of egos are obviously going to get bruised. Of course, yours isnt one of them because, as you so love to continously remind people left and right on here, you dont give a shit about their support. Wether they have in the past or will again in the future.

But hey, thats fine.

As the New Year rolls in, more Djs will storm off the decks, others will get yanked from them, and this so called "unity" everyone keeps talking about will be overshadowed by the bickering and seen as a facade. Especially in these types of threads where people want to bicker about shit the general populace out there in the world could two shits about.

I was more referring to the fact one of the most hateful househeads I've encountered on this board posted it.

But, yeah, the sheer cheesiness of the two statements themselves came in a close second on the LOL factor.

i revisited this thread cause i wanted to let u guys know that it wasn't totally awful.

there were ppl who had a good time.

i notice a lot of the ppl posting on this thread DIDN"T EVEN COME TO THE PARTY, so who the fuck are they to talk shit about it?

lots of ppl dressed up & i saw really fun costumes.

rufus is correct... its important to grow from our past. i have had parties in the past that lost WAY more money that ppl absolutely had a great time at. this party broke even & ppl had fun so i'm over my sad reflective time.

yes there was a drama a mile deep. but none of you will ever forget it.

it is my obligation to take responsibility. that is what makes a good promoter.

i do not regret the neighborhood. i came from the ghetto & i won't pretend that i was any better than those kids. i did take sociology & i'm not as smart as i thought i was. i only told mark & justmike to play for the kids. i didn't think the kids would stay.

i want to do it again

i've marinated on it thoroughly. start at midnight 18+ & have an open bar. it'd be more expensive ticketwise, but it would be a totally different experience.

my boyfriend said if we had liquor everything would have glossed over. probably true.

boozing sure makes us more tolerant of each other.
