A psytrance party we went to in Mississippi

Hey all!

Just wanted to post a review of "Sightings," the psytrance event in Mississippi.

First off we did not know what to expect because the original outdoor venue was flooded. So we were a bit down from that because we really wanted to get our "camping" on. We (Me, Alienswede, pooh and Josh/Skywise) decided to just go and have fun anyways. We were ready to get our groove on in another state! The drive was great, and got to hang out with good friends. Pooh brought his Valentine 1 radar detector and it saved us from 7 speeding tickets!

So we get to a venue, it's a small club in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. I think it is a gay club that is located inside a hotel. We check in for a room and just chill out for awhile, while waiting for the promoter to arrive. It was great cause you could party and then go back to the hotel room and chill out and then come back to the party to dance. Our room was just yards away from the club.

First Impression : The deco was really nice. (Deco by Touch Samadhi) It made the small area look very inviting. Of course you have your usual banners but they had alot of string art and the way they had the string lead you into the main room was really enticing you to go dance. It was a very small area. Which was good because there was not many people there (due to venue changes and whatnot). I'm sure Mississippi did not know what hit them with that deco LOL.

They also had a chill room, which made me totally miss lounging out in chill areas, since we haven't seen much of those in Dallas in a long time. They set up beds with tye-dyed sheets, lots of chairs and an oil lamp that made the wall look very tripped out, along with tye-dye wall hangings. Really cool environment. (Picture link below)

Music:

DJ X2C - I think he is a Mississippi Local and I only caught the ending of his set. Which was very hard hitting from what I can tell.

Alienswede - Oh my gosh. Eiwe played the best set I have ever seen him play out. People were clapping and yelling and everything. It was soo cool to see that. Eiwe brought the pace of the music down a bit at the beginning; had a really groovy start and progressed nicely into full on stuff and on to some techy madness. I think if Eiwe did not bring it down we would all be dead from dancing too much. (just kidding tehehe)

KRI- WOW his set was so bad ass and really full on. People were also yelling during his set. Josh got hurt from dancing so hard. When we couldn't dance anymore we were nodding our head big time to his music. I was really impressed. We could not take it anymore because we danced so hard. He played like 3 tracks with guitar riffs in it and it got everyone going off! I usually don't prefer the guitar fusion but hey, I enjoyed it that night. He played alot of good stuff. Sorry I don't know any names of the tracks or I would list them...

DJ Dragon - Was in the chill area for most of his set. Needed to rest a bit.

Blue Spectral Monkey - I heard him play a nice set for the chill area. All I remember is that it was just right for the environment in the chill area! We were all "yeah this is jussst right." Missed his set in the main area though.

Sound: No complaints from me

I came to this event with an open mind and just forgot about everything and was going to enjoy myself no matter what the circumstances. I think that mindset made me have a really good time while I was over there. I only wish that there were more people that attended but hey, you gotta start somewhere

Overall even though this event was very small, I had such a wonderful time. It reminded me so much of when we had events at the small venue Zombies in Arlington, TX. When only a small group of die hard psytrancers would come out and support to dance their arses off and everyone had smiling faces until the wee hours of the morning. This is a good start for them and I know it's going to grow even more from there. The vibe was good and everyone was really nice. I also got to come home with 4 new CDs!
