04.20.02 my version

ok friday night 04.19.02

about 9pm in the evening i stroll over to Mr. Pace's house for a a few. After a couple of stiff 7&7's we get to Mick's for a quick round w/ Mr. Paredes and friends. Then arrive at Homebar about 10:45, in time to settle in for my first public 2x4 with Scott. That shit was live as hell. INSTANTLY Scott and I got wrapped up in a vibe, and worked that shit out,and then,....it was,...04.20.02.

Everyone seemed to enjoy it, as we saw plenty of heads groovin, thanks to everyone for the support. To James G., nice party brother, as usual, shit is proper with you and your boys!!!(Multifunktional has got it goin on!!)
We stay for 4Peace and Funatik's set(DAMN) and then after party shuts down, head back to Scotty's for one last drink.

04.20.02

get up w/ a slight hangover, but thanks to a "lil help from my friends" it goes quickly away. I do some laundry, chill, listen to some tunes,..chill, and then meet Kai downstairs to head to Love Field.
2:15pm, 04.20.02 we land in Tulsa, run into Mr. Word(after Kai's prediction)talk to J' for a few, then delivered to the hotel room. Might I add, the Adam's Mark we stayed in was DOPE!! Chillin, again(you know it) about 4:13 pm Gator and Chris(my sax player) knock on the door and came to chill with us. We chilled till we passed out. About 8pm i awoke in a haze and got up for the party.
10:15 pm, 04.20.02 we are picked up and delivered to the venue. The Sager center where they held it was really cool. Plenty of space, two big areas, and a really nice VIP area where the promoters had a Birthday cake waiting for me(that was so thoughtful) Everyone's sets were way on point. Kai threw down a set that made Frankie Bones have to come out swingin'. My set was so much fun. Chris was AMAZING on the horn, and most of all, those kids were getting down, ALL OF THEM!!! Ok, Frankie Bones, is just sick, end of story. We talked for a few, he is definitely a hard core muthafucka, with a lot of respect for Dj's who EARN their keep. Portakal Productions aka Nikki and Turk, the party was smooth, great job.
So about 4:10 we head back to the hotel, and make it in by 4:20am. We chilled for a few, then i showered and passed out. In the morning we got up, chilled, and then went to luch. Fajitas and margaritas, yeah. Then we all went to a park and chilled until about 4:45pm, then headed back to the airport. Kai and I landed about 6:15 pm, then parted ways(was up Kai, holler at me) I went home, changed clothes, then heades up to RBC for a lil housemusic from myself, Squirt(yes same Squirt) and Casey. I left about 1am, I had been chillin' so much, i was fallin asleep.
Went home, showered, passed out.

Thanks to EVERYONE who made my weekend what is was, you know who you are!!!

cheers,

j.

Gator is bootleg
I had a great time this weekend. Hit the road Saturday at noon and began the circulation of cd's. Started of with Nick Warren GU, followed by Deep Dish Yoshiesque2 (WestCoast), followed by Eddie Halliwell "Disco Damaged", followed by Nick Warren Renaissance... WOW!! I love driving!!!!!!!

So Chris (sax player) and I roll into downtown at about 3:45 and go to the wrong hotel (John did too apparently)... we frantically figure things out just in time to make it to John's room in time for his birthday celebration... or what became just the beginning of it. It was John, Kai, Chris, myself and Mary. Next thing I know it's 9:00 and time to go to the party.

I've already said it once, Tulsa has great venues. The Sager Center is prime party material. John went on at 11:30 in the side room (which alone is almost twice as big as Orchid Bar). The room was empty before he started but it was almost like his first track drew people in. I swear, I watched people trickle in and stand far away as if they were just checking him out and didn't want to be seen. By the end of his second track... those same people were dancing it up without hesitation. I know John noticed this because he just picked up the pace even more. I honestly felt proud to be John's friend/promoter that night. After I screamed "Happy Birthday" and people noticed that I knew him, 3 people asked me who he was and how they could get cd's And Chris on the sax... all I have to say is that the next two dj's personally asked him to play along with their sets too (ultimate compliment IMO). Once John was done, and I had sweat my ass off (literally), I headed out to the main room where Turk (1/2 of Portakal Productions) was throwing down some head-banging tracks that had the crowd (500+ but I'm not good at guessing these things) literally in a frenzy. Him and Kai set Frankie up for a killer set... he delivered. The kids went nuts with his hard tracks and they danced to prove it. Bottom line... Tulsa knows how to party.

Had lunch with John, Chris, Kai, Nikki, Turk, and Miranda the next day then proceeded to the beautiful Woodward Park for some community bonding. Nikki and Turk, Portakal Productions, were two awesome people who I would support anytime (Nikki spins trance but I missed her set... F*CK!!!... oh yeah, and she's hotter than hell too).

The drive back was even better than the drive up. Weather was perfect... cloudy skies (to make for some great picturesque vistas) kept the temp perfect for windows-fully-down cruising at 80+. Listened to Deep Dish (again, hell yeah), Eddie Halliwell (at Chris's request), A 2-step cd that Chris brought along that I really enjoyed, and finished it off with none other than Depeche Mode Ultra (BOOM!!!)

Thanks and have a great day
