Thursday night Stubbs (pre ACL-fest show), about 2k peeps outdoors small amphitheater style stage, behind/above video collage. Z-trip cuts it up early. Hot and sweaty. Cheap stiff drinks. Tons of A-town hipster/'ners - dreadlocks, ball caps, phish-heads gone funky, eternal grad students, hippy chicks and college girls with glasses. I ease to the middle about 30 feet from stage front, wearing my flatop, loose shirt. Vibe is chill but energetic. Rob and Eric walk out. Eric plays bass, Rob keys for a very down dub piece. Then they move behind keys, machines and decks. Add Two percussionists, guitar/sitar, bass (long-haired kid in a jacket), three horns - four different female singers for the differnt style tracks and three rappers/male singers - depending on song. Starts off very mellow and builds it up to a major cresendo. Everybody is movin' in their own thing - hands up, heads down. Tracks from everywhere, the very first release, two from s/t, and many from Mirror, Richest and Cosmic - Lebanese Blond, Illuminati, Focus on Sight, Heart is Loney Hunter, etc.... Played full two hours. Yes I want to be Eric. Yes it reenergized me - it was the groove I'd been needing!
Caught Blackalicious at Emos later, a bit of after party at a club with the TCorp band/crew. Breakfast at Magnolia diner, followed by a tired today.
