![]() | ATB* @ blue
i hadnt heard anything from him since 'til i come' so i didnt really know what to expect, and i really didnt care about going because all i have ever heard about atb is that he is cheesy trance etc. i am very glad i ended up going, if u enjoy dance music at all, i really dont see how u couldnt like his set last night, it was kinda housy, kinda tribal, kinda trancey, always very atb. u can tell just into the first couple songs that this isnt 'normal trance.' most of the tracks were bass driven and sort of progressive, if u listen to enough trance and house u can tell his stuff is different sounding. i just looked at cd reviews of his on amazon and he produces a lot of material so im guessing he plays most of his own work. i thought it was a great set, the whole club was feelin it too obviously, the vibe was definitely thick, and it was a perfect amount of people for the club, plenty of walking and breathing room. yall who are talkin about goin to victor dinaire instead cuz 'atb blew' i think if u would have gave it more of a chance u may have enjoyed it more, i guess just some of the vocals being cheesy are what gives him a bad reputation in the eyes of some people, but he isnt a top 10 a-lister dj for nothing.....he has a great stage presence, mixes creatively, he is extremely into both his music and the audience too. u dont see acts which have completely developed a style of their own very often, and really 2 hours wasnt enough! i was very impressed and was really left wanting more....

what exactly was so bad about the shows you saw him at? do u think his reputation among trance snobs could have partially made your experience biased? (i am really curious to if u think it might have been, not being sarcastic)

no that's cool i go into any show with an open mind. a blank canvas so that they can do with what they will. especially a first time. let me preface this by saying i'm far from a trance snob and own quite a few ATB tracks. i still hold his remix of airwave in high regard. he just didnt "take me there". it was basically all fodder. i'll give it to him on stage presence. but that's just one of the elements that makes a complete live set. that will only get you so far. as far mixing goes, when i saw him, it was intro in and intro out. nothing really creative. hopefully, andre's progressed a bit as a dj. but after 3 strikes, you're out for me. sometimes producers should stick to what they do best and leave the djing to those that do that best. but the bottom line is YOU had fun last night. that's all that matters. obviously so did others. hopefully an mp3 of the set will pop up so i can hear what went down.

My impression was this, and I was upstairs vs. downstairs. I noticed when I was walking out the sound wasn't as bad as it was upstairs because the bass was so heavy. Yea, he played good tracks. Can't go wrong if you like Trance, ATB has some of the best Trance tracks ever. However, I expected a DJ that is his stature to be able to at least beat match a clean transition. I know the crowd downstairs was feeling it too because he'd do a transition and the crowd would stop & kind of look at each other in a "what was that?" daze, then go ape shit because the track was good. And as la dj said, he sure didn't take me on any kind of journey with his set last night. He was just popping in one old track after another because he knew the crowd would like it, and didn't really do anything to carry the crowd from track to track. I was sorely disappointed in ATB last night, enough that I left at 1 AM to go to Shade to check out Victor Dinare, who was unbelievable in the small amount of time I was able to see him perform. That being said, Fabian Bates absolutely killed it upstairs in the VIP room. That dude threw down some serious shit last night, and it should have been him on the main stage instead of ATB IMO. That guy has an opening slot reserved for any of my productions after what I heard last night.

i was in the bathroom when this happened, but i heard a few skips or crackles or something pretty close to when this happened, it sounded more of an equipment problem to me, maybe it was bad mixing, i dunno. besides the long pause and 2 crackles/skips i heard it all sounded good from then on......i also was just tryin to have a good time also and not give a scale rating of every minute detail.....id like to hear what other people who stayed the entire set have to say. even though regardless, the club as a whole was very pleased at the end of the set. | |

I went because I like ATB & because I thought I would run into a lot of people that I knew. I liked the fact that they had him on the stage instead of the DJ booth way up high. I was going to go to Seven for the afterparty, but I am still coughing, sneezing, etc. so I went home. Sleep is good. Sorry I missed you Matt!!! I'll be at Vission on Saturday! |

![]() | the set progression was one thing i did notice, because the sounds shifted from one song to the other very well, it was very, well, progressive. minimal shifts in the different layers until they eventually form a song.

sounds like he's come a long way if he's layered his set vs playing his hits.

i dont know the hits so i couldnt tell u if he was playing them, but if he was, then his songs use a lot of the same sounds and effects, because the sounds themselves transitioned very well from song to song, from my ears opinions....

ATB is a good producer but his dj skills def r lacking. Didn't waste my money but came at the endto prom and was really suprised at the lacking attendance. From outside it sounded like the same traks i heard from him when I first realy started listening to dance in 99. Nothin against any1 but Victor Dinaire was playing some amazing music at Shade and i wish i had stayed ther all nyt

THE ENERGY WAS INCREDIBLE and EVERYONE I SPOKE with HAD A BLAST! REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO OTHER UPSCALE OPTIONS BIG ENOUGH TO THROW AN EVENT LIKE THIS AT!!! TIRED OF EXPLAINING "ON THE STREETS" THAT BLUE ISN'T NORMALLY OPEN On THURSDAYS & THAT IT WOULD BE A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CROWD!" IT GETS EXHAUTING. ATB was EXCELLENT. I was a bit worried when he started out with "Ecstasy" but when he mixed right into Adam Nickey - Perfect Destiny , I knew it was going to be a good night. Very creative guy with brilliant stage presence. If there was anyone paying real close attention...how exactly did he do that dramatic bass drop into complete silence? He let Willie's last track play for a bit, then threw the fader up but all you heard was ONE loud bass note with no treble. He then paused for crowd reaction and then into ATB - Ecstasy. He used this bass drop technique like 3 times throughout the night. Call me a noob, heh, but how exactly did that work? |
