![]() | Week In Review...
you know what time it is?? this weeks week in review is going to be a lil' mo' interesting due to the fact, that just for you guys, i probably have doubled the amount of venues visited this week compared to any other week... so i hope you enjoy - & for those that dont enjoy this... you know what you can do w/ yourself!!!! LOL!!! j/k Sunday, June 23: SoBriety Sundays - ooops!! SoBe Sundays @ TimeSquare in Addison (sorry Matt!!)... checked out Larry Granite @ SoBe Sunday & the G3 roster never cease to amaze me!! Larry had an hour set (think it should've been longer), but i didn't know they were doing the DJ-by-commitee thing... Larry, Matt (whose selections are getting better & better every week), & a guy named Doug, another guest DJ, all ripped it up... the people were actually in abundance this time around... one problem - when Larry, Matt, & Doug spun, that crowd didn't have A FUCKING CLUE on what was going on!!!! So people, as a cry for help for the ones that are EDUCATED in the sound, lets eliminate this problem & lets show Matt & SoBe Sundays @ TimeSquare a little love & take a swim up to Addison (I know it's far, but i drive from Mesquite to see this place) to help out Matt w/ this problem that has been wrongly bestowed onto this night... the sound system is great as is the light show... so please come out & check it out, hell you get a hold of Matt & he'll get you in for FREE!!! what else do ya want?? Funniest thing of the night: remember the big dude in last week's Week In Review/Funniest thing @ SoBe Sundays?? He was SPINNING!!! LOFL!!! (you had to be there to get the jest!!) Tuesday, June 25: Moosh was the place to be that night as we had a probably our greatest crowd yet!!! they stayed almost until the very end!! our guest DJ of the evening was the lovely St. Blaize & she threw down a helluva progressive set... i sure as hell enjoyed it esp. the white label of a remix of Sarah McLaughlin's "Plenty" (if anyone knows who did the remix, let us hear from ya!!) Great night had by all as -jv-, as usual, throws down that tech/progressive sound... way to go, dude!! We hope to see everyone out this Tuesday as -jv- has brought in a special guest to spin on Tuesday night, which i think everybody will very much enjoy his sound!!! If you wanna know, come out Tuesday!! Wednesday, June 26: Here's where the venue hoppin' gets outta whack!!! I take the swim out to Funkytown (for the ones that don't know, that would be the greatness that is Ft. Worth) to check out Darren DuVall, Brian "Brillo" Brookman, & guest DJ Keenan from Tech-Sun & the Deep Nova Crew @ Sol Y Luna & WOW!! all three delivered!!!! Keenan went dark & thumpin' after Darren & Brillo spun & i was not disappointed!!! The Hamel, Swain & Snell track "Future" - mix one always gets me going, but the Oliver Klein remix of Fragma's (yes, that Fragma) "Embrace Me" captivated me & then unloaded w/ a track on Pardon Music, a dark track that made me cringe like few tracks do... RIGHT ON, KEENAN... it was good to see Wes & finally great to meet after hearing about him everywhere, R-Type, a very nice guy ... speaking of Tech-Sun, after the Sol Y Luna excursion i left & 35 minutes later i walk into a scene that i absolutely love to walk into anytime... a packed dancefloor @ The Village Station where Aqualight was just beltin' out the tribal carnage onto the unsuspecting crowd... I really wanted to see 4 Peace (Matt) but my ass was TOO late... sorry, Matt, I hope to catch ya again! The Patio was pumpin' w/ the house sounds of Cradlerock on the 1's & 2's... these two venues that i just reviewed are the places to be on a Wednesday night - HANDS DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thursday, June 27: Cradlerock invited me to check out Kid Icarus & himself @ The Sandbar, an invitation I took him up on... but first I always have to stop down @ Orchid to listen to The Thin Men... this night was pretty dead, not just Orchid but Deep Ellum itself... except for the Sandbar - once again I was late for another DJ's set as Cradlerock stepped off & Kid Icarus went on & brutha, it was party pandomonium from there as Jeremy laid it to the crowd, I'm not the biggest fan of hard house but Jeremy's sets make me appreciate hard house that much more (it was only my second time hearing Kid Icarus's set, the first, Planet Love, Feb. 2000 - un forgettable for me!!) that night it was party-yo'-ass-off-central @ the Sandbar & i had a blast despite the humidity outside & a hot schweaty crowd inside! after 2:30am (& no i didn't end up draggin' anything out!!) i walked by Club One & noticed that it was open!! I haven't heard of this feat being accomplished since Kid Icarus & Rob Vaughn attempted this feat a while ago... I peek inside & NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! The Euro-trance @ 140+BPMs was alive inside of CLUB ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!! The place where Deep Dish graced their presence countless times (GOD BLESS DEEP DISH!!!!!), where John Creamer, Pete Tong, Peace Division, Peter Rauhofer, etc, were lettin' people have it!!!! Where a couple of my favorite residents, REDEYE & Mikey (ZUUL) have always lifted me up when I was down - I know it sounds corny, but its true!!! All i have to say about all of this is - TARNISHED!!!!!!! END OF DISCUSSION!!!!! Saturday, June 29: The evening was spent w/ Geoff Haselgrove, Tony Mugavero, & Corey Spengler, better known as DATGUY... they let me hang out w/ them @ a loft party on the outskirts of downtown Dallas where they were spinnin'... the party was pretty cool for a while (anything is pretty cool after 5 glasses of cape cods)... Cary Pierce (YES, that same Cary Pierce, Jack O Pierce & somesuch!!) performed before they did @ midnight (don't ask me how he was, i was too busy working on my 4th & 5th cape cod in the past hour & a half)... @ 1:00 DATGUY & myself (they asked me to spin w/ them & what am i going to do, say no??? duh!!!) It was a shame, though because the crowd (& it was alot of people, too) was there to see Cary Pierce - oh well, you win some, you lose some... i love spinnin' w/ DATGUY, dez guys are cool as hell, chattin', spinnin', & other schtuff... yes the crowd left but i love to spin either way, & they felt the same way... we are most definitely going to have to do this again, Geoff, Tony & Corey!!!! Thanks for lettin' me on the decks, it was a pleasure to spin w/ you guys! I was not let down by any means!! I had fun... OK!OK!OK! Iknow this thread is long as hell, but what did ya expect?? you either get the facts & details or get suckered in 5 sentences!!! you do the math!!!! but i hope you people enjoyed this just about as much as i did typing - no really i did enjoy typing this for you people!!! Thanks & shouts to Matt Valid, Seth Lowery, Leslie, Tonya, E.P. & all @ Moosh, NTrain, Chef BoyDarren D & Brillo @ Sol Y Luna (wednesdays), The Tech-Sun/Deep Nova crew, Aqualight & Gabe @ The Village, Boo, Granite & Yorek, Lou Medina (where have you been, HO!), Micah (Cradlerock), DATGUY (Geoff, Tony & Corey) & everyone i met @ your house last night - can't remember, still groggy - & everyone else if i forgot ya, you know who you are!!!!!! ...thanks for taking time out to read, know it was long, but hey, i'm givin' it to ya straight (*insert gay joke here*)... ...any questions, comments, etc, you know what to do... BTW........ to: damn_it_2_hell - dude, you're name kix ass!!! but to avoid confusion, i go by Opaque here, timmer to my friends, so now you can be called tim aaaall you want!!!!! the name has been popular all of a sudden so i go by many monikers & nicknames to eliminate name-calling-chaos!! the only time you will see my real name is on flyers or an invite thread on DRaves... more than happy to clear this dilemma up for ya LOL!!! Song stuck in my head all week & it won't go away: DATGUY - DPM (Sabado Gigante remix) ("I can see your happiness on the dancefloor...") can be heard through www.g3-entertainment.com or @ The Village Station... thank you everyone for bearing w/ me... lingering in a state between blah & whatever, timmer

you are soooooo right on, Wes... Shawna & Wes thank you for the kind words... it's people like you two & the friends & acquaintances that we know that I cater to... Like Howard Cossell once said, "I tell it how it is", & thats the same way I am because there really isn't any other way to see it, love it or leave it... it's because of people that i know that I make it a mission every sunday afternoon (while recovering from the night before which probably ended @ 9 this morning) to let people know what's going on/missed out this week in the scene that I frequent... my way getting the word out & @ the same time giving a thank you to the establishment/DJ there... ...once again, thank you, & I for sure will see you guys again! only @ night, timmers

"DJ Keenan from Tech-Sun & the Deep Nova Crew" Actually... KENAN is with EPIK-ENTERTAINMENT and DEEP NOVA COLLECTIVE. Sorry... but we are VERY PROUD to have this bad ass man on OUR roster... as we found him a year ago hiding out at EDS working with my hubby. Actually, it was my hubby playing "electronic music" at his desk all the time... that made Kenan decide to get into the Dallas scene more seriously. And, he is a BAD ASS! We have been touting praises for his talent for the past year! Too bad you missed him and Wes-Lee at the Lounge on Friday...as they played for 5 hours! Take care, and thanks for the awesome review on our guy!

yeah well........from my understanding, it may be a rumor and i apologize if it is, Kenan and Wes aren't going to be asked back since the people chose to listen to crap in the main room. if they are all badass like you are saying, which they are (no fucking doubt) then why will they not be back? what is up with that? do you honestly think people want to hear "throw your hands in the air" or "the thong song"? is that what YOU guys think should pack the main room @ the lounge? I'll tell you what....if you get DJs in there that actually know what they are doing, you will attract a more positive and more music intelligent crowd that appreciates the sounds, instead of people just looking to rub their ass on some one or go make out with someone up on the roof top deck. (which i got asked to do 100+ times friday night) it's pretty sick! i think it would be your loss not to book guys like Deep Nova. you obviously have some sence. The THINMEN will be there this Friday! too bad they get the roof oh well hopefully the floor will be strong enough to hold all of the people who will be up there getting theirs on.

I don't think The Reverand Kenan and The Honorable Wes Lee need to sweat playing in the LL anyway. I don't think that either one of them could possibly work Tori Amos "Personal Widow" into their sets. :P Shawna - I'm off after Tuesday. Me, You, The Machine and the rest of us sluts need to get together for whatever. I missed everyone this weekend! M |

And I'll work it in just for you next time I see ya!And Shawna, please note that Karen does not run the LL ... she was kind enough to book Kenan and I to give prog a run on friday nights. Any decisions not to have us back would be made by the LL management. So, if it's confirmed that we are done, you guys can send your "constructive criticism" on over to the management! (I'll make sure to provide an email... )Also, I believe the Thin Men were booked by the Scy High Collective who is in charge of the roof top ... Thanks for your support homie! -Wes

Karen-I apologize to you and give you props for trying to bring something amazing into the Lounge. Management-my last rant still remains! Wes- I'll learn to keep my mouth shut one of these days but until then i'll get real good @ apologies that's all LATER, shawna |

Hey girl... I hear ya. And honestly... the majority of the Lounge crowd... likes main stream music... progressive house... they don't know what to do with it. A few did... and many sat in the room and jammed out... but ultimately, the management makes the decision on who to keep. Yes, we needed to see many of the progressive house supporters out on Friday night... but as I noticed... many of those supporters chose to stay at home. I know a few of you made it out.. but I will say that the ones that I KNOW love Deep Nova were no where to be found. As I told Kenan on Friday... this is just a stepping stone for them... as this business is fickle (shoot, we will not be at the Lounge forever!)... opportunities come and go... and when you least expect it... a new one, a BETTER one pops up. Deep Nova is a SOLID crew that has AMAZING talent... and I KNOW that they will find their niche in Dallas... where the CROWDS will jam to their sound... they have only been around a short time... in due time... they will get more a following and secure a another weekend spot (besides Jack's Pub!). In closing I would like to say this... if you don't USE it... you will LOOSE it. So many "complain" about wanting this or that in Dallas.. but when it's done... those same people ARE NOT out. They stay home. No headcount = no support = no more. Take care all.

what the hell is wrong with you progressive house heads!!!!!! put down your wonderful water pipes, turn off your burned promotion CD's that you think are absolutely phenomonal, and get off you couches and support what you love! you see all of these posts on where to be and you THINK about going but you don't make it out because of some lame ass excuse. if you love this music , please support it! or, Like Bunny said, no headcount=no support=NO MORE ![]() LATER, Shawna |

I'm learning that as we start playing more and more events here and there it gets much tougher to keep a core crowd of people coming out ... especially now that there are so many great progressive nights going on almost every night of the week (Zubar, Moosh, Orchid, Sol Y Luna, Village). I know I'm just like everyone else .. I go out 2 nights in a row, you can count the 3rd night out ... I'll be home having a date with my couch ... So, it's tough to get crowds out everywhere ... I'm thinking about having the Thin Men permantly removed from the scene so they quit hogging all the crowds though ... that's Deep Nova's next move for worldwide domination ... (sorry guys .. )hehe -wes
