My Winter Music Diary

Ok so I am here in Miami and man I gotta tell ya....this shit is mad off the chain!!!!! It's like going home and shit? I feel so comfortable in this whole vibe. We arrived at the spot on Tuesday afternoon and went to the "official" opening party at the Miami Beach and resort hotel. It was an afternoon party with DK Pierre, Ron Carroll DJ Ralph Mcdananiels and others. It was kinda empty but the music was hitting Ron Played some oldies and soe new vocal stuff as well. It was a good place to chill before the real partying begins. Met a few people from Switzerland, Australia and Chicago, new York. Well the next party we wanted to go to did not start until 10:00 pm Tues. night so we had time to kill. Went sight seeing down Collins and Ocean drive...man there are some hotties here! as we were driving we passed by the Clevelander Hotel where they were having an afternoon party.....That sit was off the hook. Met Dawn Tallman, Barbara Tucker. Sat and chatted with them for a while. Also ran into DJ Pope and DJ Oji from Poji records. (we lift our hands in the sanctuary) Bought drinks just to say thanks for what they do. Got a free invite to their party on Wednesday. Dawn Tallman performed a live PA set...one song, there were some others that performed....Ill get the names later didnt recognize the songs though.....the closer for that set was Kenny Bobien!!!!! His voice will make you have a religious experience fo' sho' The brother can sing! He sang "Father", "Grateful" and closed is set with the classic "I'll shall not be moved" The crowd was amazing. I have never been to a plce that large where the whole sea of people just moving ther bodies.....Do you remember the scene from the Matrix III where morpheous made the speech and then the party started.....thats what it was. Junior Jask was spinning after Kenny's set and he mived the crowd. Well we left there around 10 and went over to the Get Large party.....got there at enjoyed the talents of Scott Wozniak( talented dude, he played the flute, guitar, sang, and spun records....Bad mofo!), MrV (set was ok more tribal shit) Chuck Love, JR Jask and the set was closed by Roy Davis JR. by this time its like 3:45 in the morning and they are still going strong!!!!!Im like you I gotta get some sleep... so we left with the attitude that we will live on to party another day......hahhahahahahah. Finallay laid it down and 5 this morning. So today there are sevral others we will get to so I will keep you all posted. having a great time....The thing is there are so many parties its hard to catch them all...plus its mad expensive with drinks and all...fuck i need a secomd job to support this house music thing!!!!

The whole reason I don't go.

How was Chuck Love by the way? That guy put on the best DJ show I have ever seen.

Have fun and be safe!

That sit was off the hook.

Sounds like fun. I'll be there tomorrow. Tim & I are going to the alcohol store before hand, so no buying over priced drinks.

For those into dance music WMC or DEMF should be attended to at least ONCE in a lifetime. ESPECIALLY by dj'/producers/promoters (or anyone aspiring to be). WMC is one of the only confabs in the States where you can mingle with peepz from all over the world who are into House Music. For dj's and producers it's a chance to put faces with names of everyone who has put out a track or whose name you saw on a flyer. Also from a dj/producer standpoint you can always use insight from other dj's who live in a different part of the country or part of the world.

And from a single guys perspective you can't beat Miami for the ASS factor...ass from England, ass from Cuba, ass from Brazil, ass from France, ass from Haiti, ass from Jamaica, ass from Canada, ass from Des Moines, ass from San Fran...you get the picture.

The first time I went to WMC I planned things. I learned that's not really something you can do during WMC. There's so much stuff going on and a lot of badass shit seems like it was thrown together last minute and you just walk by, hear the music and pop in for a minute. Since then, we just go with the flow. I wish I could be there this, but I've been listening to it the past couple of days on XM.

There's a pizza place somewhere on Colins called Groovy's Pizza. It's the best pizza I've ever had I think. Their slices are so huge that one slice takes up two plates. You gotta love it.

and all I can say is WOW WOW WOW!!!! I gotta tell ya....this shit is mad off the chain!!!!! It's like going home and shit? I feel so comfortable in this whole vibe. I have never been to a plce that large where the whole sea of people just moving ther bodies.....Do you remember the scene from the Matrix III where morpheous made the speech and then the party started.....thats what it was. Julius Knight was spinning after Kenny's set and he mived the crowd. Well we left there around 10 and went over to the Get Large party.....got there at enjoyed the talents of Scott Wozniak( talented dude, he played the flute, guitar, sang, and spun records....Bad mofo!), MrV, Chuck Love, JR Jask and the set was closed by Roy Davis JR. by this time its like 3:45 in the morning and they are still going strong!!!!!Im like you I gotta get some sleep... so we left with the attitude that we will live on to party another day......hahhahahahahah. Since I have family in West Palm, I drove back after the party Tuesday night. Plus I could not check into my hotel Until Wednesday anyway.......Came back Wednesday afternoon and got settled into the hotel.....started the night at Club Deep with the kiko Navarro, JT Donaldson, Groove Junkies and that crew. The music was good and they had a live vocalist as well. Now for all those purists out there.....I am not one of them....However, I do love to dance so if the beat is hot and the bass is pumping, i'm dancing.....with that said i enjoyed each set i heard in Miami. I really didn't hear any "bad" sets at all. The club deep thing was a trip because they have this dance floor with fish in it. LIVE FISH!!! I wonder does the beat help them grow after staying there and dancing we headed over to the shelter party. before i say how much fun i had and stuff....I got to give MAD PROPS to the New York Dancers.....They really know what dancing is all about! I watch them move their bodies and man I Get hot! Plus their stamina is unbelievable! I actually watched this young lady at the shelter party dance and on the floor from the time i got their until the time i left 4.5 hrs later! i later complimented her and she told me she was a selter party person. I also met a dancer who was like 54 years old. I know some of the 20 yo could not keep up with this chick! Now as for the shleter party.......WHEW HOO! YIPPEE! HOORAY! BRAVO! I was in heaven! I have a fondness for the "my Imagination" track and when they played it i lost my freakin' mind....dancing next to this hottie from Engalnd she and were singing at the top of our lungs and moving...I also heard a cut with Terrence Trent Darby ("Sign your Name") had not heard that one before..plus it was real suttle I barely recognized it. (If anyone has a copy of that I sure would like to get it or if its in a mix let a bruvah know) They played all the standard tracks that i generally hear on mixes on this page. Mary Mary, some stevie wonder tune, and others. I danced the entire time I was there....so I left there about 5 am (them mu'fuggah's were still going strong) actually saw William Wilson there. I have heard days like this at a small venue and the sing along thing was cool then but to hear it on that sound system, with that many people was hilarious. me and this chick were hugging each other screaming...... I wonder if the shelter team brings in their own sound system. I mean there were speakers everywhere and the sould was loud and full without being distorted....ok went back to the hotel for a 2 hr nap so that we could start again. Did the touristy thing on Thursday. git t-shirts for the family and stuff...just kinda hung around at the hotel until i picked up a friend from the airport. we chilled until we headed back out to club deep where I wanted to hear DJ spinna since i missed him in Dallas. He was all over the place but still made it dancable.....from Donna summer to other stuuf i don't know by name. but what made it more fun was I met up with the Detroit Posse. They were rolling in Miami like 20 deep or so which was cool. Met Roy Davis, Mr. V, and so many other ....too many to name for sure! that was mad fun!! Once agin returned to the hotel after 5 in the morning. now I am losing my voice...to many freaking cigs I'm sure. Friday was jump out of bed and head over to the Victor for the 3 degrees set. DJ FLX mad props to this dude. He was so hyped as he played...bouncing up and down and just generally having a good time laughing and such. that group just beat the shit out of us in the middle of the afternoon...had abruvah going back to the hotel and laying down Hell I'm old! Friday night went to the Ladies of the house party and tried to get into the tortured souls event but I dont have the juice....hell we got there at like 12:30 and they had stopped letting people in that were not on the list or had badges. mad crowded and i heard that it was like 4o bucks to get in. thats mad high and we decided againist it. more details will follow....gotta talk about robin s
Well we ended up back at the Ladies of the House event. Got a chance to get beat up by Donna Edwards and A Detroit DJ and a couple of others. I was getting tired by then and it was like 2:30. I met the gut from Mantree records there. We went downstairs and grabbed a bite to eat and we were going over to Deep but we were too tired after eating. Early night. So Saturday was our last day….Big day on Saturday…Started by going by the Usual Suspects- Echo Bravo party at JazID. I wanted to give a shout out to the people from the DHP so I wore my DHP T-shirt (if anyone has any pix please e-mail them or post them) I got there kinda early so I did get a chance to meet perqlatr, Larissa J, Evelyn, Big Cee, and george and his lovely wife Michelle. They have a great spirit…They hadn’t even set up yet. So I had a couple of drinks and waited. As I waited there Robin S who was performing that night did a sound check…..It blew my hair back!!!!! The woman has a magnificent voice!!!! And knows how to work it also. I would love to hear her do some Jazz vocals sometime. Something down tempo with some scatting or ad-libbing and stuff. I bet she would blow it up. I gotta say what a great group rolling with that camp. Echo Bravo/usual suspects are very cool people. Friendly not afraid to chat it up with a novice like myself. I only wish more people had shown up. They could have enjoyed the same delights that I did. George played upstairs and despite a light crowd upstairs he still managed to make me work up a pretty good sweat!!!! My friend and I danced and stayed for his entire set. I have pix and video from it also so George hit up yo boy and I can send it to you on DVD. I want all the pictures that your wife took of me. That’s evidence well we left there and went over to the groove parlor party on Lincoln. Got to se Harley and Muscle, Glenn Underground and Boo Williams beat it up for a while. Big ups to Mario and his camp for getting us in. I just got one question for all the T-Shirt people. What no love for the big Fellas. Groove parlor had no 2x t-shirts. Nice club! I mean Glenn and Boo took it back to Chicago “like we used to was”. Didn’t dance much just kinda listened. Left there and headed back to JAZID. Just in time to see Robin S Perform. what a talent!!!!1 Dayum! she sang her hit of course but she sang a couple of other tunes that got the crowd moving as well. We were dancing and clapping our hands and singing along. As she worked the crowd I think the dude in the white shirt was having a good time for sure. We couldnt have planned it any better. We ended the night at Rain....Spinna was ripping it up again of course and among others. My goal during the whole WMC was to see 2 people DJ Spen and Karizma....DJ SPen was at the Code Red Party and I missed that one but hey Karizma was on at the party at Rain. So we ll went there. Saw "K"
"hey man what time are you coming on"
"k": "4:00 am"
"me": Dayum ok I'll stay.....

reply to SOULMAN...how did i miss ya???

the 3 degrees party friday was unbelievable. yes, it was at capacity within an hour, with over 300 people waiting to get in at about 2am. even some really big name djs weren't being allowed in, it was mad crazy...monique bingham live, kenny bobien live, jellybean, ed dunn, julius, jojo, flx...incredible party!!

karizma only played a few tracks after jellybean late sat night (and do we even need to speak about how lil ray needs to stay off the mic!), but karizma played a full set at the bembe party at rain earler that afternoon/evening...within 5 minutes the whole place blew it's lid!!! the whole party was dope, best spinna set i have ever heard, but K absolutely KILLED IT!!! spinna, osunlade, jojo, et al refused to go on after karizma...
adam got a minute of it on tape, it doesn't even do it justice, but check the youtube...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZkz4X7vT7M

osunlade's live sat night was sick, live version of 'everything in its right place' and 'new day' were dope...henrik schwarz and ame live, enough said

the gotsoul party was nice too, osunlade played a set that rivaled his appearance in dallas last year...spiritual

what a week!!
