| Explosions in the Sky @ The Granada
I wasn't planning on going to this show, but at the last minute my friend called and said she had an extra ticket. I figured, why not? It's free. We arrived in the middle of Paper Chase's set. I wasn't feeling what they were dishing out at all. The singer had the token whine in his voice that I have come to hate so much, yet expect to hear more often than not lately. The lyrics were scattered and uninteresting. I don't think the band sucked, but they definitely need to ditch the whiny ass singer. I didn't really know that much about Explosions in the Sky before last night. I had heard them before on Jay Leno or Conan O' Brien and liked their style. Seeing how i've really been into more instrumental, trip hop and soundscapes lately, I figured it would be nice to see them perform live. Personally, I thought they sounded really good. It was interesting to see them put together all those sounds and elements live. To me, it sounded like one long movie score. I would have preferred seeing it in a different setting with stadium type seating much better though. I think they would be much better to watch while sitting. It was a good show all around though. |

I loved it!!... Some songs they performed: "First Breath After A Coma"...opening trk "So long, lonesome" "The Only Moment We Were Alone" "A Poor Man's Memory" "Memorial"....last trk They performed alot of songs from their, "The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place" LP and also from their latest "All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone". I'll agree with ya about The Paper Chase. Very odd sounding, but I wasn't feeling them at all. I really wish Eluvium hadn't canceled their slot. Either way, it was a very intense show for me. Again, LOVED IT!!!!

And does anyone know anything about the frequency of performances in Austin? They still reside there, right?

I love watching EITS perform. Very passionate group of musicians there... The biggest problem I find, is I don't know which one of them to focus on while watching them... The bass player really rips... I remember the first time I saw them, he was rocking so hard he snapped his strap and his bass literally flew into the crowd and knocked the shit out of one of those bug-zapper emo girls... Blood was spilt... Awesomeness...
