i'm sorry, but i refuse to accept the fact that a.) because i chose to take this opportunity to wear very little clothing and b.) because i chose to not wear a mask (or at least one that covers my entire face) that it means that i should not only *expect* but *accept* being groped and photographed against my will.

if someone had told me this before i went, i would have either chosen my outfit differently (like maybe an impenetrable rubber suit, goggles, and a face mask) or not gone at all.

i refuse to accept the "she was asking for it" argument.

i also refuse to accept a location or situation in which the rules of consent are suspended. i can understand and accept being assaulted by spectacle, noise, and smell--but not by touch. never, ever by touch.

and yes, there were moments when i *did* feel physically threatened. more than one stupid asshole not only put his hands on me, but tried to physically restrain or constrain me in a way that made it difficult to get away from him.

this is completely unacceptable, and i will never, EVER go back there again.

that said, the highlight of my night was sitting on the giant converted limo that was rocking back and forth because people were fucking in it, while watching craig/pumpkin balls take an amputated leg up the ass.

Lysistrata, I really do agree with you. The problems, as usual, stem from logistics. We currently limit the police presence to the outside of the party because we think that is good for both the party goers and the police. We could create some kind of inside security force, similar to the Burning Man rangers (and there is room for some comedy there) but that creates more additional drag. Staffing those positions is going to be tough and there is a lot of risk associated with a private person doing a police officer's work. Laying hands on someone when you aren't a cop is called assault (...or prayer! Praise Jesus!).

We could take a technocratic approach like comprehensive surveillance and provide people a facility to mark offenders via some sort of web interface... but I think we can all see the evils such a panopticon would create. A more limited version could provide pictures of people arriving at the party... say... when their phone number was typed in at the door and let people mark the offenders that way. Again, this introduces all sorts of situations where people can game the system and harass their "ex-girlfriend's brother in law cuz he's a dick" using the party's resources. That's a drag.

We would love to just, like, provide an environment where everybody is just, like, cool and chill, ya know? Riggggght? But this is easier said than done... especially when the highlight of your evening is watching an amputee stump fuck a pumpkin pervert on top of an art car cadillac that crashed into a lesbian freestyle jazz meltdown.

Not a fan of being Secreted on, but I understand that as soon as I walk into this specific party, it might (as much as I hope it never happens, as it hasn't so far) happen.

Lysteria, I am sorry, and angry to hear that people had the gaul and audacity to try to restrain you, and if I knew you were having problems, and knew who you were, I def. would have been the first to step up and pimp smack those fuckers. I agree that physical privacy is a right no matter what event/place you choose to go. It is sad that people do not respect personal space.
