Black Tie Dynasty, ADULT., and VHS or Beta
DDMers made up at least an 8th of the audience for the world's most underpromoted free concert ever.

Apparently Camel can promote the hell out of things that are bad for you, but doesn't do the greatest job with music promotions.

Therefore, attendance was pretty sparse.

I caught one ADULT. track... Hurt Me.. It wasn't a bad performance, but both the audience and ADULT. themselves were WAYYY low on energy as compared to when I saw them at Rubber Gloves a few years back. One really good show. One really mediocre show. I'll have to give them another try before I totally form an opinion. They are definitely one of my favorites, so I'd hate to think that they are losing ground with stage presence.

I caught most of VHS or Beta's set, and I must say they were pretty good live. Their first album was so very disco, and now they're so very.... Cure-sounding. Strange little transition of style going on with that band, but they definitely do a decent live show. I recommend it.


PS: Happy birthday again, Sean!!!! Sorry there was no birthday sausage to be found.

The last Camel show I went to was The Faint and Ratatat down here in Austin. There was about an hour wait to get into La Zona Rosa, and needless to say, the place was packed. I guess the Camel reps up there just suck.

I really don't know what was up with the promotions for it.

There were TONS of fans I know who weren't there, and several people commented to me that they didn't know about the show until this weekend. My old hairdresser apparently found out about it on Saturday at work when a Camel rep came in to his shop in Arlington and dropped off 75 tickets for him to distribute.

I personally didn't find out about the show until Saturday, myself.

Yeah it was quite a bummer. The audience was sparse, and most of them were not there to see them and were rather taken aback by their style.

I'm really hoping that the lack of energy on stage was because of the lack of audience energy.

adult did kindof play a weird set--everyone i talked to (aside from the denton kids who drove down just to see adult) thought their set blew. i danced my ass off. their music is about as angry as i get, so i tend to smash around when they play.

the rest of it was kindof meh. the free smokes were great though! and sean blending into the green screen was funny too.
