| Johnny Funk & Mike Detloff ---- oh and pvd i guess
** Openers rocked it. Johnny Funk - We got there pretty early when there was tons of room to dance around. Johnny was throwing down some great tunes. I was loving it. It seemed kind of different from the regular stuff he usually plays. The visual screens that J Word put up were awesome! It really gave the place a whole new look. The visuals were really new and even had the dvdj's playing during opening sets (they are called dvdj's, right? i might be wrong) They were song specific anyway and I thought that was cool. It started packing in and Johnny started going crazy from the crowd. He was throwing down faster and harder stuff and the place was going wild. My fav was when he threw down Planet Soul. Wow! lol My favorite visual video was when he threw on What The Fuck and the weather guy came on the screens. I recorded some video of it. It really made me say wtf. lol Mike D! - I was so excited and nervous for Mike! Johnny's set was heavy and fast and Mike usually is not like that. If you never heard him, he's really deep, dark and slower. So we were all wondering, "how is Mike going to do this???" Not only that, but as Johnny was ending his set, people were already chanting for PvD. He completely did his thing - didn't care about Johnny's set LOL I loved it! He started out with a dramatic deep nightmar-ish opening and it just sounded perfect. Once the bass beat came in people were cheering. And Mike played on from there with some dark spooky bass. Our group was yelling, "LONDON NIGHTS! LONDON NIGHTS!" I think Mike appreciated our support and smiled and pointed at us. He better, cause let me tell you it was hard to stand there front and center for his set with people cramming in. I'm so short, I kept getting elbowed in the face. But I'm glad I was there to see him play. Great job! Bar whoes - Towards the end of Mike's set, it was getting ridiculous down there! So I thought we should go get some water before PvD came on. We had to make a strategy of which bar would be the quickest line. We stand at our normal one, the one downstairs near the main room. It was way crowded. So we thought about the girl that sells water and cigarettes in her little booth near that bar. We found out she doesn't take cards. (yeah, didn't have cash. We could have used the atm there, but the charge was $3, and that's ridiculous) So we thought the bar on the rooftop would not be long at all. We ran all the way to the roof. Yeah ---- cash only. So we thought about the bar in VIP ---- um, we get there and it's cash only. So we go back downstairs and to the bar in the video lounge. We know he takes cards. We stood there FOREVER! By the time I got up to the bar, he says his card machine isn't working. ARRRGG!!! By this time, I'm effin thirsty. So we end up back at the main bar near the main room. Stood in line forever. I decided to get 4 bottles of water and pay out so I never have to go to the bar again. PvD - I completely missed PvD's opening because of the water crap. It was so packed in there that we decided to go up to VIP to get some breathing room. The only spot we could stand in was the worst spot in the whole place. There were so many people that I never even saw the stage while PvD was playing - never even got to see the guy. And the spot we were standing in was straight BASS. It felt like there was an earthquake and I couldn't even decifer what the song was. Couldn't breathe....Couldn't see.....Couldn't hear PVD came on at 1am we left at 1:15 I think it was worse packed than the Armin incident I almost cried while coming home, so frustrated and disappointed about PvD. It was the 2nd time I went to a PvD show, and both times I left during the first of his set. The last time was an awesome outdoor show, but my friend was feeling awful, so I had to leave and bring him home. So yeah....still wanting to see this wonderful PvD show I keep hearing about. I think from now on if it's a major headliner like PvD or Armin and it's inside the LL - no more - will not go. But the only reason we went was because it was free. If it wasn't, we weren't going at all. I'd be pissed if I had to pay to endure all of that. But all is not bad - I loooooved the openers gigs! Great job guys!! Enjoyed it! |

oh but c'mon, they clearly said they weren't going to oversell the venue so it wouldn't be bad inside LOL

Did PVD rip any older classic choons like from his "Out There and Back" album? I'm sorry, but I wouldn't have paid $30 to go see PVD knowing how cramped the LL can get with big headliners like him. Maybe if it was at a venue like Cirque I would have gone. Too bad the Bronco Bowl is no longer in existence that was an awesome place to go rave Last edited by Matisfaction; 05-17-08 at 01:42 PM. |

damn homeys that sucks... I stayed till it was done ... pvd played till 4 which was very cool. the guy gives off a "I'm having fun" vibe as opposed to the "I'm larger than life" vibe that tiesto and oakenfold put off it was packed but by the tunnel area I found a sweet spot under the balcony that was cool, had room, and also a group of friends bought me and this girl drinks all night yall shouldn't have given up so fast it was a rather expensive show and I wouldn't normally even go to a trance show. but I did want to see what the crowd's reaction was to mike's set though and I knew it would be a cool party so I spent the cash. I must say I have no regrets. I think full access did a very good job with the lineup. It really says something when they put a deeper darker and more progressive sound into an epic trance show. I think it's awesome that they would try to introduce that sound to the dallas masses. I also feel that it made for great contrast to really set up pvd. while johnny was heatin up the crowd proper before mike, I don't think that pvd could have held on to the crowd until 4 am had they not had that hour break to really build the hype again. all three guys played rocking sets. full access really impressed me last night. thanks jeremy and company

First, thanks to Jeremy, Brooke, Mike Detloff and Leo. I had the opportunity to do some photos, mostly for Mike D, but they let me hang around which was great. Although PVD (or the ladyfriend) is pretty picky with camera stuff. The place was shit packed as expected and it got extremely hot. Even VIP became difficult to walk through. I didn't move around much once I was in my spot. Got there early so I could park fairly close so I got to see Johnny Funk start the night. The Troy Duncan / Weatherman DVJ stuff was definitely hilarious. Johnny was rocking it like a beast as well... people were going nuts... and the PAUL VAN DYK chants were already starting hahahah. (YOU SHOULD HAVE USED THE KEYBOARDS! )Props to Mike D for sticking to your guns and playing your usual. I thought the intro was a little slow for what everyone was expecting but of course the set was great. I agree with Sharper that once the bass came in and some of the more 'groovy' tracks were played that people started digging it. Great set. I was quite surprised to see that Paul had brought all his equipment. 2 laptops... 2 keyboards... and had a monkey set it all up for him haha. I enjoyed the music a lot more than I had expected and the dude is definitely very talented at what he does. I was completely sober because I didn't wanna deal with the crowd to get drinks and I was still having a great time. photos soon |

We meant to swing by LL after the boat party but the boat and making eggrolls all day just sucked the life force out of us.

..but I may be misunderstanding what you're sayin but I believe the videos are controlled separately from the music at da lounge.. pvd isn't vjing or nothin although while we're on the subject .. are those flatscreens there for good at da lounge or was it just for last night? those were plush .. yo what was up with the 6 encores? hahaha shit had me lolling cause he'd wave & start to walk away as the music faded so people would begin chanting inaudible things. he'd turn around with that "1 more?" look on his clowny face, begin playing with his $1000 toys, and drop another himno I remember thinkin to myself "you know it was 40 bucks to get in here, but this dude is giving dallas its money's worth

Thanks guys for the reviews. BIG THANKS to the London Nights cheering section! THAT was a great feeling and a highlight! Glad you guys were there.Second set of big thanks to PVD, Jeremy, Brooke, LL and everyone involved with putting this show together. A great opportunity and a real pleasure working with these guys. On the review side of things...great party! Reminded me of some of my Miami moments. As Stephanie said and if you've been to my shows, you know that anything above 128 is not really my thing. I probably could have taken it up a notch in my set, but then again I was just supporting cast. I think a lot of openers miss that point. I definitely put more of a progressive sound into my set this time. All in all, it was great to have the opportunity to display my approach and sensibilities to EDM, provide a dark, sexy contrast to the upcoming set by Paul and possibly win some new peeps for LN. I'm sure all of this was a bit of an adjustment for the crowd after the way Johnny was moving them around. Great tunes, J-funk! Great stage presence as well. Great show by Paul. I really liked the use of the keyboards and such. I was also impressed by his attitude towards the night. You can tell he really enjoys doing shows. Funniest moment of the night for me was when Paul's sound engineer was cueing up his gear...at around 12:50. I asked him when Paul was coming on and he said "1".I thought "Cool, I can work in a couple more tracks" Well... for shits and giggles I put together a "techy" little track, a remix of Paul's Far Away which is currently also an ongoing contest on Beatport, with very subtle resemblance to the original but still used the piano synth in the break. I dropped this thing around 12:52. The funny part of all this is that Paul must have taken this as a cue. As soon the break hit, I looked to my right and the guy had appeared out of thin air. ![]() A great time indeed! p.s. FYI- Luca Bacchetti will be in town this Monday, May 19th and will be my guest for a new concept technicalMUSIC is working on at Lotus. More details are in the discussion boards. Cheers! I think he honestly didn't want to stop. I was standing up by the booth and each time he came off and it seemed he was done, he would look at his manager with, " I'm gonna do 1 more and we'll go" look. I must admit...it's hard to stop when you enjoy playing and have people enjoying what you're doing on the decks. | |
