Re: Kapow! At Club Onyx

The crowd really loved Yosh. They voted with their feet to the dance floor. We had a lot of folks come in last night and many were from Dallas and we had some really talented people playing. Shelby started the evening at 8:00 and D-Nied took over at 9:30, but it was closer to the end of his set and into Koi's set before the crowd finally arrived. I have some video but haven't processed it yet. And it is better if you catch a glimpse from video than just reading me. Both D-Nied and Koi played professional and interesting sets. But then they are professional and interesting people. Yosh had the 11:30 to 12:30 slot and the crowd was rockin' After that, El Nino, and he is a big guy, came on in a big way and played an amazing set until 1:45. People were dancing and really into the music. GQ came on after El Nino and played from 1:45 to 2:45 and he played very well, but people were running out of beer. NOTE TO SELF: BE SURE TO BRING PLENTY OF BOOZE WHEN COMING TO BYOB CLUB! Of course, the drinking had to stop pretty soon after GQ came on due to the hour. Sneddy closed up the evening from 2:45 to 4:00 and there were folks still at the party and more folks arrived late. Sneddy prepared very hard for this show and it was clear and smooth and fun. That kind of hard work really translates to a good performance and he really did shine. Again, we have some hi-def video to process so you can see. Moonstruck Red played a little at the end of the evening with Sneddy and at the beginning with Shelby. We had some others join in a little here and there and there were no problems, technical or social. Onyx added security and my personal opinion is the visible private security enhanced the experience for everyone.

We had a good subwoofer system and good speakers. The police drove by, but we weren't disturbing the neighbors and were clearly secure and safe. We would prefer to play louder, but need to be good neighbors. There was a bubble maker outside the front door and lots of fog and as many lights as we could fit in the electric system. Different djs brought equipment they were used to using. The mixers and cd decks we bring are pretty basic but Koi & D-nied brought Pioneer decks and El Nino used his Pioneer DJM-800 and Sneddy used vinyl. Yosh used his decks and Shelby and GQ played off their laptops and controllers. Fire spinning entertainment showed good talent. Despite the rain, a good number of people had a great time last night. Everybody was really surprised how well things went and how many people came out to Hurst. This series is really picking up! One show is left.

What holds the future? We have one more show. April 25th is the last show of the series. It will be from 8pm to 4am and features six djs.
18+ BYOB, $5 cover, Free parking, Flavored Hookah!
April 25
8-9:15 DJ GQ
9:15-10:30 DJ YOSH
10:30-11:45 DJ DFW
11:45-1:15 James Prichard
1:15-2:45 Houserocka
2:45-4:00 DJ C

And get this: the party ends at 4am, then we load up the gear and have a free party at Trinity Park by downtown Fort Worth with the same gear and equipment starting at 1:00 pm (so we have to get the gear down there and set it up there early!) and ends at 11:00 PM with the following lineups:

Mind you, the K.I.S.S. in the park series is James Prichard's baby and he is running the show. He graciously allowed djdfw and gang to have a second stage at his event this month.

K.I.S.S.
stage 1 goes like this

1pm-friends with headphones (sound check)

2pm-juju--friends with headphones,wowie zowie family

3pm-simpson family tag team set-friends with headphones, wowie zowie family

4pm- d1--massive,d1 creations

5pm-terry gagaler--friends with headphones,wowie zowie family

6pm-chrysalis -- friends with headphones,wowie zowie family

8pm- just jordo--friends with headphones,wowie zowie family

930pm- james prichard--friends with headphones,tribal elements,morningside tribe,wowie zowie family

Stage 2
1pm Dj Choirboy (Jay-son) (Commerical House)
2pm Dj Yosh (UrbanHouse / ElectroHouse)
3pm Cazzy (Guitar) [Alien Bluez Dude]
4pm George Govea II (DnB)
5pm Dj GQ (Edm)
6pm Moonstruck Red (Hardstyles / Happy Hardcore)
7pm Dj Sneddy (House / Vocal House)
8pm Dj DFW (gospel country, Desi, Tibetian Chants & Hard/Fast)
9pm TNT (Dj Tom F & Tay W) (ElectroHouse)

Stage two will likely start familiar, slow and current, then twist thorugh electric influence, go through a bluez phaze with a live alien, break out to some drums and bass and move to electronic dance, spinning up the speed to a froth mouthed frenzy to a group froth mothed frenzy with happy rabies affecting all those who dance under a dark sky, two days after the new moon, dark in the park wolfing up the music, and when all fall exhausted to the warm earth they will continue to dance and twitch on the ground to the electric beat.

------------------

And what of the parties at Onyx? Onyx will do well. The place is hot! Fridays often see hip hop and rap and Elements of Sound / Sessionworks Studios can be found on Fridays from time to time. Saturdays have been great parties with our series and with parties by James Prichard and Sno White. We expect some of the djs who played in our series to return to Onyx (guys, talk to Justin at Onyx) and I think Moonstruck Red will begin a series of parties there shortly. Onyx has had many different djs playing and GQ plays there more than anyone. If you were part of this series and can continue parties in this vein and can keep the audience coming and the party going, talk to Justin.

Justin asked Shelby to play in January for a glow-rave style party and Shelby (djdfw) did it with GQ and Sirkit, and promoted it but the audience was minimal. We decided it needed to build and set up a five show series and started out with Fast Track and Vektor and it picked up a bit. The second of the five party series had DJDFW, GQ, Metronome, TnT, Sneddy and Moonstruck Red and things picked up a lot there and have been growing ever since. We took some decent video for the djs and though djdfw could have made decent money at other gigs on these days (yes, we turned down good paying gigs) we threw these parties for free, happy to have a good venue friendly to the audience and we were able to keep the costs down [$5 cover & BYOB] for the benefit of the audience. They have a roof. The club is nice and has electricity and facilities, amenities and decorations perfect for parties of this nature.

Shelby (djdfw) is full into wedding season and while the club music is great fun, our business is weddings and private events. You might see Shelby come by late at some Onyx parties or perhaps mid week from time to time and he might play here or there at some of Moonstruck's shows, but he takes wedding and private bookings and the next few months are busy. His brother is also working smaller events, house parties and teen birthdays in the mobile business as well. You might catch him at a racetrack on some Fridays (progressive country and rock) and we do have ideas about some larger outdoor events later in the summer for more of the electronic music. Yes, there are some things in the works so stay tuned...

We can use all the help we can get. The stock setup we will bring April 25th to Onyx includes four Yamaha 215s and probably a pair of JBL subs with two 18" speakers each with 2800 watts driving the Yamaha cabinets and 2800 watts driving the subs from 30 to 100 Hz +/-. We have plenty of cables to connect things.

We will also have a pair of Denon DNS-3000 cd/mp3 decks on the tables.
http://www.djstore.com//brochures/den/dendns3000.pdf General Info

http://www.djstore.com//manuals/den/dendns3000.pdf manual

The main mixer to hook up all the various gear is a basic twelve channel mixer and has send/return & wet/dry but does not have significant on-board effects. If you want effects you will need to use your own mixer or an effects box with the send/return Denon DN-X900.
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Denon-DN-X900-Pro-DJ-Mixer-630231-i1153399.gc general info

http://www.djstore.com//brochures/den/dendnx900.pdf brochure

http://www.denondj.com/Assets/DImage....pdf?ts=091843 manual

and we have an inexpensive basic three channel backup mixer some folks used as well.
http://www.geminidj.com/disc._prod_m...%20PRO%202.pdf manual

If anyone wants to bring a DJM 800 or a pair of CDJ Mk3s or 1200s, well that would be an improvement. Shelby works off a laptop through a Hercules to the x900 and the other stuff is just to make it easy for someone to come to the party and play for an hour easily off cds or their own gear if they like and to have backup to the laptop already wired into the system as well as a backup mixer on the table. We don't use any of the regular Onyx house gear at these parties.
