well since everyone is so caught up in the drama of the night I guess I will start this and let you all know about what I liked about it.

so....


Steph and I got there around midnight so we caught the tail end of Burufunk/Cooley and they were bangin' it out in true Dallas fashion. I did hear some great tracks out of the guys but that electro sound just doesn't move me as much as it used to.

The moment of truth came when Chris got on the decks and my need for something a little deeper was filled. (that sounded dirty ) Mr Lake came out of the gates with some nice chill techno/minimal beats and built his set like a pro. The tracks were not very mainstream like I expected out of him and that was a real treat. I have to say that I haven't danced like that in years.

It felt good to feel like that while the music I love was being played. It really got me going physically and mentally and now I have the passion to get back behind the computer to make some tunes!

Anyway back to the review...

The Lizard Lounge was AMAZING without the haze of cigarette smoke clouding the air and my lungs. It was nice to go home and not blow out the rave boogies .

Great show all around and I am very thankful that we made it out to this show AND for only 5 dollars each!!!!

It was pretty good. I wasn't as excited as Jayson was, though. LOL I was expecting more mainstream as well, and there were pretty much only 2 or 3 songs that fit that (which happened to be my favs of the night - also the only vocals that night).

It was super awesome to see the whole floor full of action. The vibe in the place was just more exciting to me. And the smoke-free atmosphere was so refreshing.

I didn't care too much for the opening set when I got there right after midnight. No offense to the dj, but I just don't have a taste for hardcore happy raver at that moment. It gave me feelings of being at an afterhours club. Maybe I'm getting too old

I would go see again, though.

it had been a while since I had gone to the lizard lounge... and yes, without a bunch of peeps smoking cigs in there, it really is a much better environment

chris lake's set was pretty impressive I must admit. he hopped on and shut the music off all together and then started his set off with some proper tribal business. he built off of it pretty quickly, but he didn't get all nasty-ravey either. that entire first hr was just perfect music for the lounge imo. the turning point was after he played "word" tho... the second hour was maybe more perfect for more ravey heads, but I wasn't as impressed.

in any regard, I really appreciated his ability to go into a trancyer vocal track (more than likely a track produced by him ) into a techno track and into something else completely unrelated

I wish more club djs in dallas would take note of this guy's, and other guys' like him, style.

oh and lol @ hearing that god awful remix of "love is gone" in the video bar. everytime I go in that club it never ceases to amaze me that the same tracks have been played for the last 3+ years and somehow there are still a bunch of little fuckers dancing around in there /facepalm

Most club DJs here do. But unless you are Chris Lake, you wont hold on to your dancefloor very long. People(clubbers/dancers/music fans) have to show their support SANS headliner for this approach and style or else it will have to be passed on in favor of the latter part of your post.

But as for the night, I enjoyed Mr Lake very much. Solid tunes, good energy, and one hell of fun guy.

Had I known that I was going to have to cover 40 mins into Chris Lakes timeslot I would have defiently played down. When Burufunks set was coming to an end (Ableton set) and Chris wasnt on the stage yet, I jumped in to help with the only two tracked cds I had in his bag. I was only there to play (Samples, vocals, effects) for Burufunks set and nothing else. Chris came up several times and said keep going I never play this early and the crowd is loving it. He is a super awesome guy, and an amazing producer. I too would have thought he was going to play the more mainstream sounds myself.

fun night indeed, mr.lake did not disappoint. it was nice to hear a bit of variety in his set as im a bit burned out on all the "only techno" sets ive been hearing lately.

Chris Lake was enjoying his set to the core! Played "Only One" and some of his other productions and ended the night with "Watch the Apocalypse". Pretty neat set and there was an amazing vibe throughout the club. I have some pictures from the night which my friend took. Watch them here:-
