| Danny Howells @ Club Seven
I'm having a hard time coming up with words that would best describe what I heard tonight so I'll say this - Imagine Danny Howells getting into the drivers seat of a very large steamroller and just driving it across whatever DJ set you thought was perfect or great. Thats exactly what he did tonight. He LEVELED every set I have ever heard before in MY LIFE. His set was inspirational at the same time disgustingly good. I can assure you this set ended some careers tonight. You could almost hear wannabe DJs groan in fustration and throw their hands up in the air over the grim realization that this man was better than anything anyone will ever hear or see. I had not a single drop of alchohol tonight and yet I was intoxicated NO!! Make that PISS DRUNK.....with the incredible tunes this man layed out for us to hear NO!!! FEEL!. I know this is going to start a flame war but I dont fucken care. You guys are going to go to Meltdown tomorrow. And your going to see Paul Van Dyke and think " oh what an incredible dj........oh hes so awsome he played all my favorite tracks. I have almost all of those Hi Gate and Members of Mayday tracks.....blah blah blah" Well allow me to retort - If you think these guys from across the pond playing cookie cutter stuff and not being able to flex in some - house/funk/breaks/techno/reggea/driving/prog/techy/dark/brite/deep/.........whatever. Then those guys dont play for the people - for the culture. They play for the money and the blind adoration of thousands of suckers who wouldnt know a good tune if it came up to them and bit them in the ass. Again I may not be comming up with the right words to get across the point I'm tryng to make but for all that stayed till the very last tune - YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! Thank you Jay Winborn . Thank you Darren D for warming it up proper. Despite technical difficulties you had me immediatly grooving and moving first step inside the door. and...... Thank you Danny Howells. |

You will get absolutely no arguement out of me. I know exactly what you are talkin about Blame...lots of us do.... Danny Howells is great because he has no regard for any rules, standards, boundaries, or limits when he plays. His wide open mind is the key to his unmatchable flawless sets.

UNFUCKINGREAL!!!!!!!!! I was really fucking surprised by what I heard tonight - I mean techno??? (BTW... that one techno track w/ the Eminem sample, "nobody listens to techno", was pure genius to use!! Hell why not??) Breaks?? prog?? funked up house?? the rest is listed above in fernie's quote!!! When I heard him in Miami last year he tore it the fuck up!! But this time around, he was all over the boards!!!!!!!!!! Even at the beginning of his set, he was letting us have it w/o even letting us have it yet!!!! When he came in to SEVEN tonight, he didn't come in to play some bullshit floorfillers - hell, he didn't come in to BULLSHIT PERIOD!!!!! He came in to give it to us like no one has ever gave it to Dallas before that I can remember!!!! He came in w/ an arsenal... and in his line of work, you gotta come prepared to blow everybody away!!!!!!! I got there towards the end of Darren D's set... real funky Darren, just the way i like it!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry Jay, I got there too late to hear ya!!!! But i know you did a great job!!!!! BTW... thank you for bringing Dallas a rare gem like Danny Howells!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As for everything else... I'll just let the replying posts speak for themselves!!!!!!!! I hope you ppl enjoyed it, b/c I'm going to be hard-pressed to find ANYTHING to top this set - anytime for a long time to come!!!!!!!!!! still trying to get over Danny's set (but won't be able to), timmers I

^^^^ Gentlemen, you have done a far better job explaining tonight's "experience" than i can! $15 was NOTHING! NOTHING I SAY! I almost feel guilty for only had payed that...however, i did support the bar quite well....but reguardless! H O L Y S H I T !!! I just heard one of the greatest sets i have ever experienced in my life!!! I couldnt believe how i felt tonight...it can not be expressed in words...and i am afraid that the pity ass words that i may jot onto the screen would not justify what happened in Dallas at seVen last night. Danny Howells quite simply "roxored my boxors"... I was shocked at the energy level...i dont know how many people i taked to tonight who said the same thing. You know how sometimes during sets...you get this one "filler"track??? that just turns into another "filler"track...and then who knows??? I mean dont get me wrong...it may still be a bad ass mix...but during that one brief moment that the energy level gets "lessened" you think "hmmm...i should go to the bar now...or talk to my friend now..." NO...not with Sir Howells...Every track....Every mix....it just took a hold of you while you were on your way walking to the bar and just said "YOU!!!...dont even think about it...shake your ass now..." Wow...it was my first time to hear Danny play...all i can say is he bumped up way to the top of my "Best sets" list...i wish i could have a copy of it on CD...i was TRULY IMPRESSED... Track selection, presentation, contstant high-energy level, thick vibe, TONS of dancing, filled dancefloor ALL NIGHT, $1 drinks (OMG i love you whoever made this executive decision to allow this tonight...) All in all i give tonight a 10 out of 10 (and you can quote me on that Elevated Beat) wow...thank you to everyone who helped make this evening happen... i am going to bed now. |

![]() | Speechless once again!!
We just got in and settled down after the 3+ hour drive back from D-town. It was everything I was expecting and then some...after seeing him in Houston last month I knew I could not miss him again...I AM GLAD I DIDN'T!! Once again he amazes me and leaves me grasping for my mind and breath. Next stop, LA, NYE <--Danny Howells, Giant Style Want something fun to do for New Years? Get a group together and party in LA...total madness I kid you not. Airfare is dirt cheap and you can snag a hotel for <$60. + Howells will be there. NYE sets are usually nothing short of phenomenal. Thank You Seven and to all those who made this happen, Great Job!! ~J |

Words cannot express. I couldn't trainspot a tune in sight (other than that remix of the 80's hit "Obsession" and the remix of Ruffneck's "Everybody be Somebody") but, as many above have said, this has to be the most phenomenal dancefloor-destroying set I've witnessed all year. I went to Food/Tobin earlier in the night but couldn't miss out on Howells later in the evening (2am). I only regret I didn't show up sooner! Ladies & gentlemen, Howells presents to you: the biggest contender for the sound of 2003. Move over electroclash, progressive disco is the buzzword of the day. This stuff is so infectious that you'll find yourself dehydrating on the dancefloor but still begging for more. Howells closed with some funky/nu skool breaks if the first 4 hours weren't invigorating enough. Someone must've tipped him off he was in Dallas. ![]() Literally, the dancefloor almost fell victim to cardiac arrest due to this jockey's nonstop onslaught....fluid mixing, nice juxtaposition of disco bangers vs. atmospheric melodic prog (but hardly bog standard!), tech-house stompers vs. breakbeat classics, Brazilian house clangers vs. Latin rump-shakers, etc, ad nauseum! Nice to meet some new heads on here including Andrew and Edmond and his wife, as well as the usual suspects Opaque, Wes & thefncrow. I was the guy w/ the shades, front & center, nonstop 2am-4:20am.

![]() | Nobody listens to Techno!
This goes down as one of the top 3 sets of the year in my book. Incredible Incredible Incredible tracks were dropped tonight. Any "house head" would have dug the stuff that was being played tonight. I've never seen Danny live before, but I will definatly be a repeat customer from now on! There wasn't a single "filler" track the whole evening. I think I recognized 2 tracks tonight. Had to leave around 3:30 during the Eminem sampled track ... The 1st track he dropped was off the hook! Darren D did a GREAT job opening up last night. Truly a magical night here in Dallas. Yes, progressive disco is fucking killer .... Thanks Jay & Seven!!!!! Top 5 for the year. 1. Delta Heavy 2. Danny Howells 3. Parks & Wilson 4. Thin Men every Thursday 5. Aqualight every Wednesday -Wes ____

I just want to add that, 'LAST NIGHT KICKED ASS' ... I totally agree with Blame. I think I'm just gonna hang this shit up, because I don't know how the fuck you can ever top that last night. I need a whole new bag of records and what's fucked is I don't know where to even start on getting some of the tunes I heard last night. Somebody hurry up and bring Danny back to Dallas. How about a Friday night residency at Seven??? Jay?????? -Wes

On another note, I can't say how much Howells steamrolled Sander (who was here just last Wed. night) in terms of energy and variation. This was also my first time to see Howells and I regret it took this long! Please rebook him before November of next year.
