A M O N F U C K I N T O B I N!!!!!!

OH MY FUCKING GOD!
UNBELIEVABLE SET!
An unreal fusion of trip-hop, jungle, experimental breakbeat and the strangest darkness owned the floor last night at Trees...
one of the best shows I've ever seen...
I want to pass out now and dream of that set's perfection...

pretty wikkid diversity of sounds from the man Tobin, if a little too much of a headfvck at times. I found it hard getting locked into a groove with the excissively experimental noisy bidness. However, the many styles he unloaded on the dancefloor kept it more than interesting: pop (TLC, I think it was....whoever sings I don't think you're ready for this Jelly, lol), IDM (Squarepusher), nu-skool breaks, jungle, trip hop, hip hop, etc..

Strictly Kev and P-Love were also some splendidly talented mofos.

Props to Kilo, Kari, Dawn and Mr. Init String (folks I ran into last night).

I missed the end of the show (how late did it go?) for Howell's @ Club 7 (and I don't regret it one iota! See the Howell's review thread for details)

Amen.
And sorry, Vinnie, but I like headfucks.
The only performer last night who's noise I could've done without at times was Strictly Kev, yet still, he did fairly well.

I also realized that I kept telling everyone I wanted to hear '4 ton grasshopper' and going on about how it's my favorite Tobin song, when indeed, it's '4 ton mantis'.
hahaha
Needless to say he didn't play it at all. I think I jinxed it.

It was awesome to be able to see Amon perform, though, especially with my two best friends, Kilo and Chloe by my side, both of whom are Amon fans of equal calibur

I was the annoying one camera-whoring up front, possibly the chick who snapped your picture when you weren't looking.
Chloe and I also decided to hand out random notes that said ridiculous things, if you got one, I hope you laughed.

Last night goes right up on the list with Mum, Atmosphere, and Shadow (I was there in spirit, dammit) as one of the best shows of the entire year.

Hi, he even broke into "Do You Know Squarepusher".
That's the first time I've heard that brought into a PUBLIC set.
Although, the response from the crowd around me wasn't a very welcoming one. I didn't care, though, Chloe Jamie and I love that fucking song and we danced our asses off...(as best you can to anything by Squarepusher)
Of course, I loved when he brought his Amon-flavored triphop goodness into the mix. He had the entire place WITH him.
Now that's impressive

Vinnie - I walked in during Strictly Kev's set...is he the same guy as Strictly from Dj Food?

Kari - hehe, I think he did play "4 Ton Mantis"--he just remixed it in such a beautifully confounding way that it wasn't so easily and immediately recognized, just part of his nature as a player on the collective unconscious of a crowd...we all get sucked into this spiral he's created right before us...

Yeah, there's just something about his sound that makes all of his songs blend into one gigantic AMON sound... There were possibly snippets of every tune he's ever done in that set, but I couldn't name a lot of them... All I know is that when dirty industrial downtempo trip hop with creepy orchestral samples hit me in the forehead, I knew for a fact that Amon was taking me into the deepest darkest scene... And that's where we were.

Bludwax - yes, that was Strictly Kev AS Dj Food last night. I know they're all about the oldskool breaks, jazzy oldies, and dirty down funk, but when he dropped that first jungle track, and everyone went crazy, I was pretty sure he was gonna play jungle for the rest of the set. I just can't believe he played WARHEAD of all things!!! I haven't heard that song for years - since it was played the hell out. Still, that song seemed to be the epitomy of jump-up in my life... And everybody jumped up. memories.

I do hope that next time Amon tours, he puts together a more intricate show involving more lighting, projection, and live instruments... He deserves a show like that.

*bows down to teh Tobin*

I kept thinking I was hearing snippets of it, but it was hard to tell..
I only wish the entire thing had made it out, but honestly I don't care what Amon Tobin does with his songs, as long as I can listen

I know I heard "Golfer vs. Boxer" mixed in every once in a while. I'm glad he provided ear plugs cause the treble was deadly.

Strickley Kev had some killer remixes going on, at one point he had 3 decks runnin, with Hall an Oats, Michael Jackson, and Nenah Cherry. haha somehow he made it dope.

P Love made my night with the "Strobelite Honey remix" and "Ms. Fat Booty into -> "Sweetest Taboo"

Bonobo perfectly kick started the night with his latin styled set.

"Terrapin" was the perfect way to end a beautiful night.

Heres some pictures I took from the show:

Great show. Everybody that played was amazing. Good job those who put this event together. I would love to see more hip/trip/idm-hop in the area. Mabee with the nice crowed that showed up we will see more of this in the future.
