Last night I saw a show that changed the way I thought about electronic music. It was the tigerbeat6 (kid 606's label) tour at the rubber glove rehersal studio in denton. The first grop up was two guys from austin (I can't remember the name of the group) The had a midiman Oxygen 8 keyboard, a laptop, a mixer, a guitar and a few other devices that were hidden on the other side of a rack. They made some very dissonant electronic music, very experimental, but cool to see happen. They were probably the weakest of the three acts. Next came "Numbers" a trio of Moog Synthesizer, Drum set and Guitar, who rocked the house. (One of them had a kraftwerk shirt on, and made me wonder if the name numbers came from their song.) Then the headliner, Cex, maybe some of you know him for his experimental work (autechre kinda stuff) But he ended up doing a very hip hop show, with nothing but a mac lap top and rapping over it! And he was GOOD! About half the show was him just talking to the audience about different stuff, and it was hilarious! There were probably about 50 or so people crowded around the main stage, and at one point, he actually jumps up and down and "I'm gonna crowd surf you guys now!" And by god he did!
These guys put on one HELL of a show, thinking about and presenting electonic music in a brand new way, and I encourage all of you to try to check them out if they're ever close to hear again.
