A Very Electroclash New Year

hey all,

i'm in new york city right now. i thought some of you may be interested in knowing how my new year's partying went. i didn't take part in the times square ball-drop thing, but i still had a pretty good time and didn't go to sleep until 10 this morning!

after i got into newark, nj, i got a cab and met my friend mandy, who is the newest member of the sexy trio of electro chicks w.i.t. (whatever it takes), at larry tee's apartment in brooklyn. after a quick change of clothes, i headed with w.i.t. to their first gig at a new bar called water street. it was a lackluster venue and not many people showed up. i ended up being crunched in a small office with w.i.t. and a few other people before they went on and that's where i was at midnight. we thought the bar's manager was going to have w.i.t. on stage for a midnight toast or something, but he didn't get them until a little while after. all i got was some kisses on the cheeks from the girls and the others in our group, so that part of the night was rather uneventful. but then they went on and performed a few songs and then we jetted over to luxx for their next performance.
side note: these nyc cab drivers are craaazzzy!
the electroclash party at luxx was soooo much better. we got there and went into their little (and i mean little) private room and sat around drinking pabst blue ribbon (classy!), taking pictures, throwing confetti at each other and blowing bubbles. i got to meet neonmusic and spaulding rockwall (sp?) and some other electroclash peeps. when w.i.t. went on, the club was packed and everyone was dancing and having a great time. i totally rocked out to "it kills", singing 'i, i, i, want, want, want you! do you want, want, want, me, me, me too?' mandy's spanish boy toy, pablo, and i kept throwing confetti during their songs and then the bubbles started! alas, i was starting to get tired and those damned high heels were starting to hurt my feet...
...but of course that didn't mean i was able to go to sleep yet. after that we went over to the tribeca grand for another electroclash party that was going on, it was 4 am by then, but the party had just ended and everyone was outside catching cabs over to this little place called plant bar. i was kind of disappointed to miss that party because chicks on speed, john selway (a.k.a. memory boy), too many djs and some other good acts were supposed to be there. oh well! but i had a decent time at plant bar. tommie sunshine played and i danced a little, chilled on the couch a little, bitched about my feet hurting a lot, and tried not to fall down considering how drunk and tired i was.
...and at 10 am, mandy finally pointed to a couch at her boss's apartment and i was out the second my head hit the pillow...!


well, i missed partying with all my friends from dallas, but i hope everyone had a safe and fun new year! i'm gonna go to bed now - i'm hoping tomorrow they take me to this restaurant that only hires drag queen waitresses and also has an albino parrot that says racial slurs - woohoo!!

btw, who in dallas likes electroclash? do we have anyone that actually spins it? i'd really like to hear it in a club down there...

I dig the sound. I think there might be some played on Sunday's @ Red Jacket. Also Scotty throws some into his set on Fridays at Orchid Bar.

i love electroclash, i actually wwas there at luxx in brooklyn for new years the other night...the guy working the door told me that it was the birthplace of the genre, they were playing some great electroclahs tunes till noon on new years day...

the music has been around for awhile now

Electroclash is the name of the festival that Larry Tee put on in NYC for the first time in 2001... everyone just started calling the music "Electroclash" because the media are ignorant and didnt know what else to call it, they also thought it was just created that year by Larry Tee so they decided to call it Electroclash...

you were at luxx for new year's tuesday night/wednesday morning? that's crazy!
well if you saw a girl in a peach short sleeve dress with black fishnets and black high heels on (and red hair), that was me. i definitely didn't expect another draver to be there, but that's awesome!! do you know which acts you saw?

i don't know larry tee very well so i can't really give an opinion of him yet. but i will say that the girls from w.i.t. are so funny and nice, and larry's bf, conrad, is absolutely adorable!

i don't think red jacket does nu electro/electroclash on sundays, i think it's straight 80's retro (used to be Red Square Retro when KDGE sponsored those nights, but I think WILD 100 or someone does that now). i've only been to a sunday night at the red blood club once, so i haven't heard any there yet, but i do need to go back soon.
hmmm, i was thinking while i'm up here, perhaps i should go vinyl shopping for some electro records, then i can just spin it myself...

i was there, strolled in around 3.15 or so...i had been at a couple house parties beforehand, and i made my way by luxx a little late as you can see...stayed for a couple hours then i went to the basement of this cuban bar right around the corner, mucho fun...can't recall who was playing and such, i was a bit tippsy to say the least...wish i would have seen you there, would have been funny to see a fellow draver there...maybe next year though!!!!

yeah, if i do anymore shopping while i'm up here, it needs to be for electro vinyl. i just dropped $200 on a couple BADASS pair of adidas - i'm such an adidas junkie.

but let's just say i think it will be a greater challenge actually affording a bunch of electro vinyl than finding somewhere to play it.

up here in NYC. i'm leaving for dallas early sunday morning.
i'm assuming since my friend mandy is part of w.i.t. now that she'll have the DL on where i can find electro vinyl. i'll pm you if i need some help though, thanks!

oh, and glad to hear there are some places in dallas that actually do have some electro. i remember seeing a miss kitten & the hacker record at core, but that's about it so far, though i haven't been looking a whole lot either.

i enjoy watching w.i.t. live. it's not like they blow me away with their enormous talent or anything, but it's campy electroclash fun. if you watch them expecting anything more, you're missing the point.
