nice night for hip hop at the tea room....talib kweli went off, and what can you say about common, a 5 peice band, and dj dummy(sp?) playing warm inteligent hip hop...nice night indeed. only one complaint when dj dummy(sp?) was beat juggling, his weight on his tonearm on the right 1200 wasn't set accordingly and he wasn't able to back cue a thing, shitty, totally fucked up his flow, had to cut it short....other than that the night was flawless, the sound was thick and clear...seeing my friend chris pop on stage and try and crowd surf, only to be dropped and then to have common freestlye about him not only once, but twice during the show, priceless, hahaa....anyone else make it out there??

He couldn't continue because the tonearm weight was off, that's why he stopped? What a little bitch, it takes 5 seconds to change that. Jesus, that's some of the lamest shit I've ever heard. I had a decent time I guess. I think I would have had a better time if there were a bunch of couches to lounge on, because Common is music to lounge to imo. Talib was okay, though I didn't really like him going after Bush. The irony of it was that he was wearing a Nolan Ryan Rangers jersey, a jersey that was worn by Ryan when Bush owned the team. So either Talib doesn't do his homework before he speaks, or he cares more about whoring himself to the local crowd....maybe both. I'm going to talk to friends of mine in Austin tomorrow and see if he wore a UT jersey down there. I also was amused by Talib calling Bush a terrorist then 5 minutes later telling everyone to "Love love love love". *throws L in the air* Anyway, the thing I took from tonight is this: if he shaved off the goatee, Common would be a dead ringer for Lord Vishnu.

The problem the dj had was when the second DJ came to perform with him he was slamming the fader so hard it knocked the mixer into the turntable which made the needle fly off the mark... and he did that twice...made for some interesting words after the show... Russell |

huh, looked like more of a technical problem than that from where i was standing since dummy(sp?) was screwing and unscrewing the weight at the end of the tonearm vigorously, until he finally shrugged it off, and then one of the tea room crew came in to replace everything. but i guess i stand corrected....

Well, given that everything the DJ was trying to do was more advanced than his abilities, he still (and I'm agreeing with you) had too many problems... ...and don't you hate it when a DJ does a solo that Baby-G did 12 years ago and ten times better... DJ solos are like guitar solos to me, of the hundreds I've seen only 5-6 really stand out... bring on the tablists!! |
