A few thoughts...

Anytime someone has so much hype built around them and the cost of an event is raised so high, expectations are raised to a level that is hard to meet.

I did'nt *really* care if I saw Sasha or not. One does'nt need to pay the fees that the super commerical "big name" DJ's command. There are plenty of DJ's in any genre that can provide an incredible experience, that may far exceed anything that Sasha can do on his best day. However, Dallas promoters tend to only focus on brining people that are well known and hyped and will sell tickets, not promoting quality talent that simply has not been to Dallas before. Tens of thousands of dollars on an artist does not mean that artist is any better that someone that charges hundreds of dollars.

With that said, I did go to the show and did'nt have to pay for a ticket, so I really went with no expectations and just wanted to check out the great SASHA and see what everyone was talking about.

I got to the BB at about 11:00.
The lighting setup was nice, but not effective. Takes more than just throwing a bunch of money at some lighting to create a stunning look. Get someone with some artistic talent and ideas involved.

The projection screens were very impressive, but the projection were boring and drab. The projectors were not setup correctly and that is why the signal was so dim. If your going to spend all that money, get some good visual artists and bill the VJ lineup.

The sound was one of the most incredible sound systems that I have heard, except for maybe some Tonka sound configurations. Had plenty of power in the complete spectrum of sounds and was clean and clear. With that said, it is up to the DJ to EQ it correctly. Sashas first track was a breaks bass heavy track that just cratered into standing bass waves.

I thought Sasha was boring as hell. Good mixing and flow, but boring as hell. We left at about 3:00. A good DJ gets a crowd going and takes them somewhere. Sasha just played some records and created no energy or vibe. All of the people were just standing around and watching. The is partially a problem with Dallas, but a good DJ would have got them going. I have seen it done plenty of time. A good DJ plays tracks and genres that he likes, but also has to cater to the crowd while at the same time educating them. Progressive house can be damn good or completely and utterly boring - the result is completely up to the DJ.

Most of his mixes were quite short and many were just fades. His version of taking one on a journey was to go from a minimal track to a more building track and we would then take it back down again. He never took it up and higher with a build a would then just take it back down. Recipe for a boring formula. A DJ at the price and with a $40 fee should blow my mind. He did'nt do that. I have had my mind blown for free.

How many of you are willing to dance when you don't like the music? How many of you guys go to events that are'
nt exectly your cup of tea to simply support the scene and each other. I'm a trance head, but you see me at plenty of House parties on the dance floor. I can't say I ever see the reverse.

Welcome to what you together have created, boring monopolistic commerial mega rave hell with little fractures and splintered groups of people here and there. I can't wait for the next $40 money making venture with Supastar DJ Hype. At least the support was mild which should send a signal to the promoters.

We than went to the after party at the Area 51 Warehouse. Nice warehouse! $10 for an after party?! All Area 51 has ever cared about is money. It was a "riot" seeing all the Highland Park rave posse, all gimped on E and K.

I do have to agree......

on one thing.....$40 is way too much to pay for a fucking "party" or "rave"...whatever the hell you want to call the drug get togethers. I was at the Sasha show and missed Sasha but saw everyone else almost and Lee Burridge and Jimmy Van M could mix very well...i just wasnt feeling it. It put out kind of a boring vibe. I didnt feel like dancing at all, but walking around talking to people. The kind of "parties" that i like died 2-3 years ago along with the so called "scene." I look at this as a rebuilding stage and we are losing the battle! Nobody will ever match the vibe and butterflies i felt at the "Jumble Trible" parties. Those days are gone but man....those were some parties that rocked all night and didnt cost but maybe $10.

thanks exactly why i didn't go to that

i'd rather go to a party that has only 20 ppl that are dancing around & supporting & screaming & all kinds of madness...

plus i don't like to spend over 10$ on anything

support your local disc jockey...

i never stand around, and if it wasn't for the music i seriously wouldn't be going out.... i complete agree w/what you are saying & i'd just rather hear my friends spin than anyone else... esp!! if i have to pay 40$

no no, i have shopping habits that are somewhat out of control right now..

I have to agree with everyone. I didn't have to pay or anything cause I was working the ticket booth, but when I was done and went to go watch SASHA, it just seemed kinda boring to me. It just didn't feel like a rave to me. Even though there werent alot of people there, it just didn't seem the same. If I had to pay the $40, I would be real disappointed and would've been pissed that I wasted money on it. His spinning was okay, but nothing real special. I figured someone like him who gets paid more than what most of our parents make in a whole year, just to do one show, he'd be having everyone jumping, and just make it one crazy party, but I guess I was wrong.

Hell yeah locals put in more effort and have more heart. They are the ones trying to put their name out and have something more to prove to the crowd. They are the ones saying we are from Dallas and we will get the crowd dancing. Thats why I refused to pay $40 to see the great Sasha. I'm not saying locals are better but I do say they try harder.

Actually David, the real reason it wasn't so great was becase Yab-Yum wasn't there to dish out the Mad PLUR!!
Hahaha.

Seriously though. I did get in for the last 15. The Lighting was cool, the sound hurt my ears, and very few people were dancing.
I probably would have had a good time though. It takes a lot to get me down, and I've often had a blast at parties, that others said sucked because having a good time is a personal decision.

I like it when international DJ's are brought in because it cost me much less to see them at the Bronco Bowl, than it does to fly to London/LA/NY/Ibiza whatever to hear them. Unfortunately I'm not always impressed. It's a gamble, and somoeone has to take the risk.

Anyway, this is the review section, and my main comment is:
IT WAS FUKN COLD OUTSIDE!!!
