GBP: Oh what a feeling

First and foremost...I would like to thank Crystal and John for allowing us to have a party at their residence. For being such good hosts you deserve a gold star...To the GBP for putting together an awesome event which I can proudly say I helped with. I can't wait for the next one. And John I left my swimming trunks and Towel over there...Sorry I tried to clean mostly everything up but I forgot my shorts...Man

Yesterday was un-focking believable. I came early about 5:00 to help set-up which wasn't difficult at all...John and Crystal and whoever else helped them had everything already setup. It started with two and then came the flood of family members, new, old and becoming members swam threw that place...

The Venue
Oh yea let me tell you about it. 25th floor you walk in and there's a pretty good sized room. Then another one covered in carpet...In there sat a wraparound couch, Tv, chairs and a Bar. A bunch of windows surrounded the heated pool...above the pool there was a hole in the ceiling overlooking downtown Dallas. I could see the focking Pegasus twirling outside of the circle.

The Music
John started it off with some Spongle on cd's, we had to be quiet. Yea that worked. The dj took us threw everything that wasn't exactly our music. I was wishing that he would play something to get down to...Though I don't think he---It was a little fuzzy the whole night...Though I think it was planned that way or at least that's what Mojo told me

The Setup for the Prophetess
Bushes surrounded by rope lights. Everyone brought a lot of flowers for whoever this Ieuternum goddess is. They were all thrown throughout the the bushes...Just wait for the pictures...Sand sculpture, Mushrooms grew throughout the vegetation, and pictures and trinkets were thrown thoughout.

The Sweets.
Now this is where it got fun...I couldn't believe how much food there was there to eat. So much that all of however many people showed up couldn't finish it all. Though they sure finished off all the beer. I tried to keep it under wraps I did but everyone kept rushing the kitchen for more cerveza....

The Experience
This was unforgettable...I'm kicking myself for not going last year. I feel as though I missed out on something that could move me in the correct direction. We played Musical chairs for a Cake. We played with one of those big a$$ parachutes playing Red Rover let so and so come over. I swam in the heated pool...I saw some of my best friends wasted beyond normal drunkeness. I stuffed myself to completion...I watched the water nymphs play in the pool...I fed the crowd Strawberries and the Extra special Whip Cream...Don't ask me why it was so special...Everyone just wanted some. I fed some of the most beautiful PEOPLE grapes. I had a lavish time.

Last Remarks
If you missed this one come join us next time...I saw a bunch of D-ravers...I'm not kicking any shouts because I don't want to forget anyone. Though there is word that there will be 3 dinner parties. So you get to come and eat with us again and again...Chat...sit down and kick a few back....

WE ARE FAMILY....
So we only grow-up from here

Idris

I'm just making it home from the afterparties...If that tells you anything

Yes! It was amazing! and THANK YOU for the grapes and whipped cream! I had so much fun last night! I had no idea what to expect last night, but WOW it blew my mind! I got to meet a lot of new people, and some old friends too. Everyone seemed to be having a good time the whole night as well. I got lucky and went to an after party just a couple of floors down in the same building; so I didn't have to drive anywhere. It was a lot of fun and THANK YOU GBP for helping me have a wonderful evening!

Also...I wanna say hey to everyone I saw last night who I haven't seen in a while AND all the new people I met last night! I wish I could have gone around and met everyone! THeir were so many amazing people their last night! I didn't know what to do with myself! But...yeah! It was great to meet everyone I did meet...oh and Bunny...WHO was sitting with you?!?! I TOTOALLY forgot...eeeek! I hate it when I do that! hehe *muah*

Last night was as good as it gets. The party was the perfect prelude to a night of joy. There wasn't a single negative vibe all night and the fun just didn't stop flowin. Idris was the party's MC I guess. He's one cool azz muthufuku.
I don't think there was a single person out of the ~200 people that didn't have a smile on their face. Even a chick I met at the beginning of the night who was bummed out cuz her friends were neglecting her was all giggling and happy and meeting people by the end of the night

About the music: I heard John Walker say that the music was intentionally setup to not be the focal point of this particular party so that communion would take precedence. Great vision... I think it worked for the most part. Besides, there was plenty of time left after the party for the music to flow. And flow it did. If you missed DJ SPUN and DAWN OF SOUND at Red Blood Club last night I feel sorry for you. That was some of the best house music I've ever heard. And then DAWN OF SOUND showed up to spin at 5am at the afterparty... LORD ALLMIGHTY IS SHE FINE!!!!!!!!

There's so much more I could say about last night but it would take too much mental stamina to lay it down coherently... so I'm gunna quit while I'm ahead. Just some parting notes:

The GlassBeadPlayers are people of vision and harmony. They embody the beautiful and peaceful spirit of love and light (and house music). I am eternally grateful to the G.B.P. family for opening my eyes.

Idris... you a badazz

ENJOY!! Peace,
David

I gotta give a massive thanks to the GBP and all those involved with not only organizing the event, but to all those people that attended and contributed to a night beyond appropriate descriptive adjectives.

If I were to attempt to put into words what I experienced last night, I could only say that I experienced a lot of the same magic and child-like enchantment from the first parties I ever went to, which (I'm sure not coincidentally) were Hazy Daze shows.

I'm not much of a 'socialite' per se, not because I'm an asshole, or that I'm jaded, but in all honesty because of the fact that I'm extremely shy-natured, and that I get very anxious in crowds....I don't know why, but it sucks. Last night, I walked around, introduced myself to people, carried on wonderful conversations with people I've never before seen, and was able to detach myself from most of my normal social reservations. Last night, I felt a vibe that I haven't felt in a very, very long time; the GBP and all of last night's attendees have my deepest gratitude for reminding me of what these things *used* to be like for me.

I only wish there was a way to give back some of what I took from last night. The only way I feel I can really express my appreciation for last night is attend any GBP events I am capable of attending, and allowing myself to contribute to the collectively wonderful 'je ne sais quoi' that will be there.

Much love and thanks;
- Thomas

Dearest Idris,

Thank you for such kind words and inexhaustible energy. Your presence was very much a factor in the success of our first festal sodality exercise of the year.

A note on the music: The DJ of the evening and the music played was INTENTIONAL. DJ Sun Wu Kong of the Invisible College of Esoteric Disk Jockeys (ICEDJ) has been a long standing unspoken hero amongst the Dallas intelligentsia for 13-14 solid years. He's one of the small handful of DJ's that was allowed to play at the Disturbathon (if you don't know, don't ask) during its heyday, and has always astounded me with his track selections. It is always with great pleasure that I recieve one of his archive recordings.

The reason why he was chosen is simple. The nature of the Glass Bead Game is to use a wide variety of asthetic permutations in correlation with each other to produce equally numerous effects. By replacing Dance music with say jug band tracks, or electro-acoustic lounge torchsongs we are removing something that even though it is deemed necessary to our scene, it is more often than not a real creative hindrance. If more dance music producers stopped acting like engine lathe operators and listened to some of the intricate experimentation going on in other places then they perhaps will be more inspired to create something truly original instead of the same rehashed nonsense that's really beginning to undermine this scene (asthetically). This ain't no zombie jamboree.

Case in point: In thanks for the opportunity to play to a different crowd, Kong gave me a real gem - his root chakra meditation cd. The frequencies involved, the pitch and key used, etc. all were cunningly mixed together to produce a gradual alpha state. There were a few time in which under headphones I could feel the sound inside of my head and trickling down my spine. Being familiar with this type of experience I can honesyly tell you that it has been some time since a dance music dj in this city has been able to perform the same.

But not to worry, Brother, you will have your time to move, in the mean time remember that you are named after the Islamic equivalent of Enoch who as the second prophet of men (after Adam) was carried away by the Ophanim (the "Wheels") to Heaven. Abide in wisdom, stop for a moment, and listen to the music of the wheels unconstrained by imposed rhythm.

Be Seeing You,

Mustafa al-Laylah Bey

I feel so honored that you are part of the 4 GBP that I look up to the most. Your wisdom is astonishing.

I'm so glad you cleared that up for me and others...I knew someone could explain it better then myself. There is always a proper recourse.

If that is true about my name I thank you for passing the knowledge it's power. I believe my parents got it from Budweiser. Yea, they actually put out a set of placemats that my parents still have. On one of those, sits Mai (Sultan) King Idris Alooma circa 1200 a.d. This Ancestor of Sudanian nature united two kingdoms Bornu and Kanem into what is now Sudan. He went on yearly pilgramages to Jerusalem and came back with guns. He replaced tribal law (As far as law between different tribes---think Navajo, Algonguin, the Khans, Shaka Zulu) with Moslem law. Though I am not a devotee of the Religion I do follow some of it's principles as I do all others...Creating my own little set of guidelines for myself.

So basically I was named for a king that United Kingdoms, Changed Laws, and he was big on dual purposes.

Though that's just what I know about my name...

That's funny I was just talking to Drannon this morning about that....

From what I'm reading I missed a great time. I apologize for my absence, but my transport and my body were both in questionable condition Saturday night. So it seems that now someone will have to "kidnap" me Feb 3rd so I can get my much needed passport. I'll see you people there come Hades or Anthrax.

Talk about getting Kidnapped

I got dragged all over Mekalekahi after GBP to finally settle down at a top secret location...Jazz from Collective Groove Culture and Chron put together a renegade in the basement of our federal building in our fair city Mekalekahi, Mekachinaho...And no we didn't even have Jaxx...Well this party lasted into Sunrise of course...It ended my night and began a new day. I ended up being Kidnapped by Chron to watch the sunrise with the Reunion tower in the foreground while going over the overpass.

A perfect ending to a perfect night...Though I know others had different ending

Idris

On a side note I would like to thank Jazz for combining his after party for the Dive, with the Red Blood Club and the GBP...And for bringing Dawn Of Sound for our aural pleasures...

Not everyone understands house music...It's a spiritual thing

I will infer my feelings on last night as well, using my last bits of energy before I pass out to communicate the great time I had. I enjoyed meeting all the new faces, and look forward to seeing all of you gain your positions as GBP's third class. I had a riling good time, and enjoyed exerting a lot more energy than I normally do at party events. Everyone synched really well, and that was nice to see...especially at an event with as many people as there were there. OVER 200 PEOPLE!!! That's an amazing improvement in attendance numbers over the last year's 50 to 60 people at the first dinner party. Anywho, I am going to go collapse onto my uncomfortable, old box spring now, so a good night to all.

yeah, the after party was pretty cool. i'm not much to talk about vibes, but the feel of this party was incredible. the only thing that ruined it for me was the sound of idris clapping. yeah, anyways, i look forward to another throw down there. choice venue in my book, haha it was an underground that was actually underground.
