| Duran Duran still pretty...film at 11!
Yes, although the double D have barely changed physically outside of Gucci fashions and new do's they still sound excellent live. For about an hour. Then father time starts to creep up on the one time God's of glam. These boys were on yachts with champagne and supermodels long before Diddy had his first Puff. They were indeed the first ballers, high fashion, sugar daddies on the scene (all while wearing more make up than the models usually). But that was then...they held it together up until i would say "White Lines". That was the first sign of turbulance. Then Mr. Le Bon substituted the saxaphone solo in "Rio" for a harmonica solo.....not a good idea. Lungs...not...strong...enough...must...finish...so ng. But you know what...they were up there doin it and they gave it their all. I would actually give it a B+ (even though I didn't hear New Moon On Monday or Skin Trade or The Chauffer) Highlights were definatley "Notorious" (except for when they went into "We Are Family" for some unknown reason to poor effect), "Ordinary World" and "Night Boat" which i didn't expect at all!!! The set: (not in this order) A View To A Kill, Is There Something I Should Know, Planet Earth, Careless Memory, Girls On Film, New Religion, Hungry Like The Wolf, Rio, Save A Prayer, Come Undone, The Reflex, White Lines, Notorious, The Wild Boys, 2 new songs, (Waiting For) The Night Boat, Ordinary World |

it was also interesting to hear the 30 year old women screaming "OHMYGOD IT'S SIMON!!!! AAAAAGHGHGHA!!!" "LOOK AT NICK !!!!AAAHAHAGAHAHAGAH!!!" "I LOVE YOU JOHN!!!!AHAGHAGAHAGHAHA!!!!" it was definatley a lot less of an "attractive" crowd than i was expecting....there were four or five attractive people...the rest were stuck in the 80's 35 year old types (oooh, the hair do's!!! or actually "don'ts"). There was also a definate feel of ergency to get home to the baby sitter. No bad impromptu high school reunions thank God...well, there was one. (but i just kind of turned my back on him and starting talking to someone else) Juandingo and I were watching the groupies come from backstage with their autographed stuff....man, several of them looked like Velma from Scooby-Doo.....at least the Duran boys' wives don't have to worry about them cheating on the tour!!!! But it was a good concert!!!!!!! end transmission |
