Being Passed Over for a Promotion...AGAIN.

So, when the first supervisor was fired that worked here I was called into HR and told since I was the only one with enough call center experience to be promoted to supervisor. Surprising enough to me, when they fired her, for whatever reason they hired someone else. This was her first job (EVER) and she had just gotten out of college. Why they decided to go with her over me, I'll never know. A couple of years go by. She calls me yesterday to let me know that she's taken a job somewhere else. She just wanted to give me the heads up and tells me all her responsibilities will fall on me. It was kinda good news and bad news at the same time since there's only 3 of us that work in the call center. (the company never hired those that quit along the way. We started with six) The thing is, my other coworker is leaving tomorrow for a month-long vacation in France. So her turning in her notice today means that for two weeks I will be here by myself running the call center. So she turned in her notice this morning to our manager. Well, our manager just called in me and my other coworker to officially give us official notice. He goes on and on about how they're really depending on me to run things around here and so on and so forth. Then he turns to my coworker and tells her to worry or think about things while she's on vacation because I'll be able to handle it. Then he proceeds to tell her that when she comes back, she will be promoted to supervisor.

So I feel like I totally got ripped off. It's like he said, Jessie, in turn for all that hard work you're going to be doing while you're running the place for two whole weeks, we're going to make someone else supervisor. But we really appreciate your willingness to run things by yourself.

Do you have a degree? Does your coworker? Maybe they're just not that into you? Without regard it seems like they've treated you with a good deal of disrespect - you should look for a different job don't you think? And hopefully leave while they're shorthanded

quit whining about it. This is time to use leverage. When the company needs you the most, you throw down the gauntlet. Ask for a healthy raise and if they don't accomodate, get another job. Call center jobs are not that hard to come by.

I would seriously listen to Ash at this point. When it comes to making responsible decision I always consult Ash.

If you have the exp it shouldn't be that hard finding a higher paying job.

I have an associtates degree, which did fall below the current supervisor's bachelors degree. But the other coworker has no college at all. She has no previous manager experience and this was her first job after being a stay at home mom for the past 10 years. Her previous experience comes from sales.

To add insult to injury, I'm actually being trained to do the supervisor job for the next two weeks...that way I can train Valerie when she comes back.

If you can't ask your boss why yr being passed over then you should look for any other job. You can't work with/for someone that you can't talk to.

I would love to leave. And the vindictive side of me wants to march into my manager's office and throw a two weeks' notice at him. The responsible side of me says I have bills to pay and I can't just do that.

Yes, call center jobs are pretty easy to come by...but I have yet to work for a company that offers benefits as good as this one. And my pay is pretty comfy hear. And apparently all I have to do is let them walk all over me.

I guess I can be sneaky about it...when my coworker comes back from vacation and I have to trian her, I could make sure she screws it all up royally so that way they go, Well, Jessie. You've been doing it so well these past couple of weeks why don't you just keep doing it.

Just went in to talk to my boss...he shut me up real fast with a $3/hour raise, as he put it, "to show appreciation for all the hard work"

It's better than nothing I suppose and at least I don't have to deal with the extra responsibilitise of being the supervisor. That title would just add so much more to me resume though...
