i hate when you have a great mix all laid out but you are missing just that one last piece of the puzzle to really give that final complete touch.

Ya sucks...I've actually had better luck with just going into the studio and grabbing a random track at first and going on the fly. Of course I do have certain tracks in mind before hand. Every time I have tried to pre-plan my sets it sounds exactly like that when I listen back. It just feels like I lose the energy a set should have. I've even tried writing the set list down and listening to each track and how they blend together ahead of time to ensure a proper progressed mix and still prefer the unplanned route.
