I Hate Uncle Sam

So, my big raise was on my check this week...YAY! Until I open it up and break down the numbers. I had 10 hours of overtime pay, so I wanted to deduct that to see how much my check will normally be. Imagine my disappointment when I find out that I'm only make $40 more. WTF??? My gross pay went from $887.76 to $1080...so apparently that was an open invitation to Uncle Sam to start taking more money from me. WTF?

Even though that's a $10K increase in taxable income, it should not have bumped you out of the 25% tax bracket. You can set your deductions to specific amounts (your employer might not like it, but it's legal).

If they're taking out more than $300 a week (which is more than the 25% on an annualized basis, so it should cover you) then you need to have them adjust it.

if her gross listed is correct thats only a 5k increase. after 20% tax it leaves 153ish net per period. im guessing if she has a 401k plan thats whats eating up some of that. other than that i think shes coming up about 100 short if she did all of her math correctly in deducting the net overtime.

Ah, but the GOP cut taxes...... the Dems look like they're going to let them go back up. I can be pissed at both and for different reasons.

If the Dems make the cuts permanent and fix the AMT drift fuck up and peg it to inflation then I'll remove that bopne of contention from my Dem annoyance basket.
