Desktop Support the office

Work has a policy that you can only have 1 machine. Most of us have laptops but under certain circumstances you area allowed to have a laptop and a desktop. We are working on building a build machine to do automatic code builds every night. Since my laptop is not always on it was not feasible to have it as the build machine. So I ordered a desktop and I ordered a KVM switch to have both machines share resources. KVM switch gets here and the desktop support chorizo comes up here to install it. First thing he says is I don't know where you want me to put this but he says it like he is frustrated that he has to do it. He looks at me and says "You don't have much space on your desk". Well no fucking shit. Hey I know what it would probably be better to have 2 monitors, 2 keyboards, and 2 mice. I'm sure that would fit better then a little KVM switch.

He then asked Why I had a desktop and a laptop and if it was cleared with my manager. Our approval policy is so strict its impossible to get another machine. It was the vibe and the way he was asking questions that was getting to me. He asked me again if I was clear to have the machine and why I really needed it. I answered with a very smart ass tone telling him it was a build machine and I couldn't be doing builds on a laptop that isn't always connected to the code repository. I then told him he could leave and I would install the thing myself.

I'm thinking of e-mailing his boss.

i'd have a pissy attitude too if I had to work desktop support. might as well put me in the drive thru at Whataburger

After in depth analysis that really was only 1 hour of my time I came to very same conclusion. Looking back I've really never met a nice desktop support person.

screw that guy. i do desktop support, if anyone acted that way they would be gone. he's probaly just mad he got taken away from his myspace/DDM.

Damn, that sucks. Luckily I haven't had much interaction with the desktop support at my work. Hell, even when my laptop came in I had to go pick it up from them.

Then, 3 months later, another lady in my department gets a laptop, and someone comes, sets it up, transfers all her files, does everything for her. That's some shit.
