my heart hurts for Dallas. I'm afraid that by the time I get back, it will all be different, and I will have missed it all for nothing. has anyone else felt this way about moving? Most people I've talked to have been glad to get away from the old, and while I am to a certain extent, I greatly miss the familiar.

I moved to Ft Worth from Dallas in February. I miss familiar hang outs and good friends being close. But, I'm making new friends and finding new places to hang out. After living in Ft Worth I will NEVER move back to Dallas. There is less traffic, people are more friendly, and everything just has a more laid back feel. I miss the good times in Dallas, but I'm looking forward to better times out here.

I moved to Oklahoma City after living in Carrollton for 3 years. I missed all of my dallas friends, but also got away from alot of shit that I didnt need to be caught up in. I made alot of good friends and contacts as far as art business goes and then we moved to Oregon. Being 1,800 miles away from everyone and everything you've ever known has it's ups and downs. For example, I spent my first thanksgiving and xmas away from my family EVER. It was sad, but also let Elizabeth and I start our own family traditions. How far from dallas did you move?

When I first moved to Dallas from Tampa....it was cool, fun and exciting. Because it was all so new...but after about 6 months, the "new factor" wore off, and I was itching to get back to Florida. I ended up being in Dallas for a lil over a year, when I came home some things had changed.....but it was still nice to be back. Theres something to be said about knowing your surroundings, having like minded people in your life, and the ability to enjoy many things, that the "new surroundings" could not offer. I am possibly moving to San Francisco for about 2 months, coming up here very shortly. Which I am really looking forward to..as I have never spent any length of time on the west coast, plus I cant beat the opportunity that I have been offered. Out of respect for my friends that live in Dallas, I will refrain from going into the reasons why...I feel Dallas, isnt exactly the best place for personal development/growth...or positively influenced, concious altering experiences. But, anyways.....enojy the move, try and experience as much of the new area as you can. One thing that is always my favorite thing about being in a new area is; Its easy to get lost in the crowd...and not have any ties to anyone.

been in Austin since monday. I miss my friends in dallas. ...It's strange not having a place to go hang out with people I know every night of the week. I'll reserve judgement for a month or two down the road though. hope all is well in KC Rachel!

I like living in Texas and Dallas is a nice thriving metropolis also, but once I moved out of the state, I realized just how parochial and sectarian Dallas (and Texas in general) can be. I encourage everyone to move out of the familiar at least once in their lives to gain a little bit of perspective on the real world. Even if the grass isn't greener on the other side, at least you'll know what it tastes like.

You know, I'm actually contemplating a transfer out of DFW to either Chicago, Boston, Phoenix, etc. But to be honest, I'd rather move out of the country for awhile. If I could, I'd probably follow Casey to Australia or skip to either Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal, UK, Amsterdam, or Germany.

Ft. Worth is more laid back though, downtown is also more happening than Dallas. The population growth rate of Funky Town is booming compared to Big D. | |

i moved to arlington from pampa, tx when i was 14... it was freaking GREAT! then i moved from arlington to fort worth, still great, closer to work... after moving from fort worth to dallas, i really miss my 817 crew.. my THREE best friends live on the EAST side fort worth, the ONLY reason i live in dallas is b/c phil's work is out here. i could live in north arlington & my drive to work would still be less than 30 mintues on i-30... dallas is pretty cool & all, esp on the wkends, when i live only 12 miles from EVERYTHING, but i'm fine where i am b/c i'm with phil. he has relocated from seattle, wa to dallas, tx for almost 3 years now & he misses seeing him mom & his boys from back home. however, i know that he is glad that is doesn't have close ties w/"dream breakers" - that is what i call friends that prevent their friends from reaching goals... anyways, you'll be okay parkaboy, keep yr head up & you'll be good |
