amd i would also ask the electric company whats running through your meter...you could be paying for exterior lights or anything for that matter...i had a friend that was paying to run the washer and dryer for his building and didnt know it

Man I have about a thousand s.f. and I have to keep my place cool and my shit tops out at 200.

So I am laying in bed Wednesday, and my power goes off. I call them, and they tell me I have a total due of $507.39. I asked when they last received a payment, and they told me July 24th. I asked her if that is for 2 months, or one month. She told me she could not break it down for me over the phone.

I hung up, and I left to go to my parents, so I could get ready for my dental appointment (I was getting a root canal). On my way over, I got a flat tire. I think Wednesday was the best day ever.

What sq footage is your apartment?

How cold do you keep the AC?

What do you turn it up to when you leave?

Do you keep lights off, etc. when you are not in a room?

Oh, and the advice to turn off the AC when you leave is a BAD IDEA! When it's 100 degree during the day, turning off your AC just screws you more then you have to turn it back on. It's best to turn it up to 83 when you leave.

if he knew all the answers to those questions he wouldn't be ranting & raving about his $500 plus bill...

unless he had someone staying w/him that kept everything on during the day... that will cost it to go up

I turn my AC to 80 when I leave, because all I have is a cat. I turn off all lights that do not need to be on, and I only have the TV on if I am watching it.

Up until July 31st, my AC was set to 65, maybe lower (I did not set it there), and it stayed there even when no one was home. If there was a light, it was on, and all the TV's were on, and a laptop at the same time. Oh, and when the the AC was at 65, I would come home, and my patio door would be open.

None of this was my doing.

Before that had someone else take care of the bill. From now on, I take care of that shit, and I will make sure it is set the way I want it at my place.

She said if I wanted a break down of usage, to call my meter reader. I switched to TXU.

And my apartment is only 750 Sq Ft max. And I am south facing.
