So i want to adopt a shelter dog!!!!!!

but we already have 2 dogs and our house/backyard just isnt big enough for a 3rd dog. It breaks my heart that there are dogs that are getting put down every day....

One day I plan on having a ton! I want to go and adopt the dogs that have been in the shelter for the longest period of time....usually old black dogs.

And I plan to have a place big enough to put some kennels and runs in the backyard so I can take in strays until I can find them a home!

I love shelter dogs, they are usually the best. The only thing that sucks is actually going to the shelter and picking one out, because once you get in there you want to take them all, and you know they all want to go with you.

Keep in mind that just because you have a decent sized yard, doesn't mean you should have dogs.

You need to walk your dogs at least once a day for 45 min. Typically you should once at 7am and again in the afternoon. That makes for a happy pack... I hope you don't just say fuck it and keep them outside/inside all the time.

Taking on another dog is great! Just be sure to be responsible about it. Feeling sorry for shelter dogs is a big mistake a lot of people make, they take them in bc they feel sorry for them, then they just become an addition to the family that is neglected. In which case you might as well leave them in the shelter.

Only take them on if you want another child !

THEN DO NOT GET ONE.

Everyone ALWAYS feels sorry for unwanted dogs. But if you don't have the energy or space or time... it's a bad idea and you may eventually be giving it away after a while bc you made a mistake. They can be just as depressed in your home as in the shelter.

You'd be so good at that. I can see you being one of those types of people that spends most of her time finding suitable homes for dogs who need them. You should look into that. I bet it doesn't pay anything though, it would have to almost be a hobby, unless you owned the company.

As long as you're home enough to care for the dog, it doesn't matter how small or big it is. Taking them on long walks often is what's really important, not the size of your casa.

Hahaha I wish!! I was talking to my friend in DDB the other day about this...she said you know it would get filled up in 3 days and you would go crazy trying to find them all homes. This is why I like to work at the root of the problem. It's not pretty but the more time we spend educating people the better chance we have at preventing future issues.

Hopefully all of the animal city ordinances are passed on April 28th regarding this issue!! Mandatory spay/neuter, anti-thethering, laws against horders (this is huge for cats!), etc.

Shelter dogs are cool, I just prefer to get them when they are extremely young, like bottle feeding young. Also, a little off subject, but it is easier to pick a shelter dog than it is a shelter cat. Cat's are assholes and I have two, one which I raised from birth (which is the best pet ever), and the other one who is a hissing ungrateful bitch.
