what do mangos and poison ivy have in common?
Urushiol!!! the oil that most people are allergic to? the one that causes itchy blistery ugly rashes? yeah that. i got to learn the hard way that mango peel and sap oozes that oil, so while i was eating the fruit directly off the peel, i was getting that shit all over my mouth.

think about that: poison ivy on your lips. and then add hives on your face.

not. fun. >=( a week and a half later and i finally don't look like a mutant but i'm still slightly itchy and my mouth hasnt felt quite right since.

A quick way to get some relief is to pour some 100 proof vodka anywhere that the oil touched. A strong alcohol dissolves the oils and rinses them off your skin.

I'm not actually allergic to it, i just have to remember to not get the peel any where near my face. but i'm still staying away from it for a month or so. I had just bought 5 golden mangos too *cry*

wow that sucks. you have to be a super sensitive person to that...cause the amount of it in a mango peel is significantly less than what is in poison ivy.
