ID Theft

So I noticed earlier today that $501.50 was taken out of my checking account without my knowledge. It looks like an ATM withdraw and the bank says it was in Florida. My card is sitting here in front of me. I just checked my Credit Report and that looks ok. Hopefully this is the only thing they've taken, and hopefully I'll get the money back.

I always check my account to see if some money has been taken out and not by me.

Identity theft is no joke, my bf just finished two years of court battles and tens of thousands of dollars to get it all repaired, not to mention all the loads of other complete BULLSHIT that comes along with it.

Check your tx dl status too, the person could have stolen your identity completely and if they get tickets, warrants, etc... and then you happen to get pulled over, guess who's going to jail? Over and over again? You.

And you can't fix it till you get a new dl number. Which is hard. We went through the attorney general here, personally. Till then, you can go to lew sterrit and talk to (I'll get his name later) officer so and so (at the left) and you'll be assigned a code, so that every time you get pulled over, you give the cop the code, and then they'll realize you have identity theft and that they need to be very thorough.

I hope it's not a bad case of identity theft, but, usually it is.

Yeah, I checked my account this morning and there it was. I called the bank right away and got the dispute in. I should hear back in a few days. I'm just wondering how they got the money from an ATM without the card or pin number. The transaction says "Premier America ATM". If they did get my info while I was in Miami, then I hope they got a big bag of blow and OD on it.

That means they had your card and your pin. And they could have gotten that by a billion ways. They could have found your wallet and just written down your dl number and info and the card number..

Are you missing anything? Id's or any other cards? ss card? Passport, anything with your name and picture and address or anything on it?

That happened to a friend of mine a few years ago. Somebody stole her info, and got a new DL with her name on it. Then the ID thief proceeded to get busted for prostitution multiple times. My friend was arrested for it, and had to sit in the tank for hours until they finally realized that she looked nothing like the person in the mug shot. It took her years and thousands of dollars to get everything sorted out.

Hopefully you didnt use an ATM, that wasn't dircectly attached to a Bank.

I will try and find it, but there was a story( miami herald) about card readers, being on ATMS. That basically record your card info once you use it, and is easily duplicated with blank cards. Something to the effect of the stolen info, is coded into strips and placed on the back of cards.....not exactly sure. I will try and find the article that recently ran.....fucking Haitians. lol

What happened to you, while a pain in the ass...isnt that big of a deal. The bank will credit it back, and place a fraud alert on yoru account. Probubly just close it all together and transfer funds to a new account.

lol, yea, my bf, who served in the coast guard and never ever went to jail, got pulled over for speeding (this was before he knew his identity was stolen) and the cop was like "Son you've got 16 warrants out for your arrest!!" and Chris was like WTF???????????? If the cop gave a fuck, he could have went back into his computer system and checked the signature and cross checked it with my bfs signature right there at the scene, but since he's latino, he didn't give a fuck about any of that and even roughed him up before taking him to jail. Went to jail 5 times after that for the same shit. He gets pulled over, then goes to jail bc identity stealer wracked up loads of warrants, can't get new insurance or registration or anything because identity stealer has his dl and you need a NEW dl to get ANY of that stuff anyway, so it was a fucking nightmare trying to sort it all out. You can't get one thing without the other, and you couldn't get that thing, without the dl, which we couldn't get, so everything was fucked.

But, luckily we made buddies with the A.G and she helped him get it sorted out in a few short weeks, after him trying to figure it all out with a lawyer (and his life savings).

Complete nightmare for any person.

And, we knew were this dude lived. It took every ouce of strength for Chris to not go over there and kill the guy for ruining years of his life and making him spend so much money.

I heard about that...and it sounds like that's what happened. I did use an ATM at a Bank down there, as well as different ATMs. So it's a good possibility one of them had some sort of scanner.

There's also a device that they can stick into an ATM and read all your info off the heads. That happened to me one time in Belgium, then they spent almost $6k buying liquor and cigarettes and smuggling them into the UK.

Luckily I had proof I was in Morocco by the time they were doing this, because the CC company was a giant douche about it, and tried to make me pay for it all. Being on another continent is about the best alibi you can have, though, so they dropped it.
