Migraine from Hell

Woke up in hell.
Had to pick up migraine meds at pharmacy, but they didnt open until 8.
Oh the agony.
Eventually had to take two relpax.
Stupid Monday.

If you can login and start a thread on DDM is isn't a migraine from hell....

A migraine from hell is when you have to close all the shades to made it as dark as possible, turn the AC to 50, hide in bed and hope you can't feel the horrible rumble of a cat walking in the next room

still.... any migraine sucks in a way difficult to describe

sorry - that did come across far more condescending than I intended, not that I'm above that shit... just wasn't trying in this case. Glad your feeling better. When mine come on I know and there's usually nothing I can do to prepare except get to a safe place. Then try to get to sleep. Afterwards... it like I am a zombie... I see in shades of grey, hear poorly and I'm confused and stupid. I hope yours aren't so mean to you.

i've had to stumble in there with a terrible migraine quite a few times at like 4am to pickup migraine meds

I have a friend who has migraines like that. It looks like pure hell. He has to be in complete darkness. Even cracking the door to ask him if he's ok is torture for him because of the little sliver of light.

A few months ago I started getting bad headaches pretty regularly, like every day. But I haven't had one in a few weeks thank god. I hope I don't get what you have!

Mine are certainly not at bad as that sounds.
However they are pretty debilitating, I always end up waking up with them and cannot sleep because of the pain. I always take meds to help, there is no way I will just suffer through one. Relpax works for me thank goodness, but I do suffer for the hour I have to wait for it to kick in, and I get medicine head symptoms. Thank god for the meds. I hear you though, while im suffering I am in bed, with all lights off and NO noise.

Again, I didn't mean to poo poo you and I know it came off that way - sorry. No one with migraines need defend the sufficiency of the pain to me (or anyone for that matter). I'm glad you're doing better. I had the worst ones when I was in grade school... classics... when I'd puke it'd feel like my head exploded. 8 year old kid crying at the toilet praying I wouldn't have to throw up because it hurt so fucking much. Soft things would feel hard.. blankets and pillows felt like the were made of fiberglass when I'd roll onto them... I'll never lose that memory... really weird I know. I started seeing a chiropracter and eventually the frequency diminshed to 'acceptable' levels...(about once a month with less severity) this was in the late 70s early 80s and nothing was really offered by regular doctors. I learned my triggers and would get out of the sun, drink a lot of water and try to eat something. That usually worked. By the time college roll around I'd get them once a year or so... now... every couple. I tried sumatriptan but no worky. If you wake up with them you may inquire as to cluster headaches... I get those fuckers too...

What causes migraines? Like, what's the difference between a migraine and a regular headache? I've never had them, so I don't know a lot about the subject. Seems crazy that much pain could be involved without any longterm damage.

Well everytime I go to the ER with a migraine they always want to do CTs and mention how people who have a high number of migraines are at a higher risk for strokes.

For me a regular headache I can take 3 advil and be fine. Some of my worst migraines I have wanted to stab my head with a screwdriver to relieve the pressure. So far I havent come across a migraine medicine that works. So usually I just go to my doctor or ER and essentially get knocked out like I am about to go into surgery. Usually throws me off for about 2 days.

As for the causes there are a lot of factors. Most common for me are climate changes and certain food allergies. Anytime I get a migraine now I list the 2 meals I ate before and stay away from anything I havent had on a regular basis.

I read recently somewhere that people who use narcotic based drugs (vicodin, oxycotin, darvacet) to treat migraines usually end up increasing the frequency of migraines.
