Lazy ass government employees

So I recently moved. I was told I would be getting one apartment, but when I went to get my keys they discovered a problem with the apartment and ended up moving me into another apartment 2 doors down instead.

Problem was that I had already filled out the mail forwarding to the apartment that I would not be moving into.

Everything the USPS sent me said that if there were any errors in forwarding, all I needed to do was call an 800 number to make the correction. The 800 number then gave me the number for my old post office to call to make the correction.

So today was the first day that I could actually make the call during post office hours. The stupid lazy bitch there says she can't make such a change, and wants me to fill out two new change of address forms.... One for my old apartment to the correct apartment, and another for the incorrect apartment to the correct apartment..... Which takes another 10 business days to process.

Today, I caught my mail carrier at the new complex. Out of curiosity, I ask him what I should do in my given situation. He, as well, tells me that I can have my original change of address corrected to the real apartment number, and I just need to call the 800 #.

So I called the 800 # again, and they tell me again that I need to call my old post office, so I call the old post office again and get a different person who again tells me that my only option is to go ahead and fill out two more change of address forms per resident (a total of 4 forms) and wait the 10 days for the order to process.

So I found the mail carrier on property again, and told him what was going on.
THANKFULLY, he's not a lazy ass government employee, and agreed to just dump anything going to the wrong apartment number with our last names on it into the correct apartment number mailbox.

Jesus.

Just so this one girl could spare the 2 minutes of time to go in and change the apartment number, she's going to cost another employee somewhere else the time to go and process 4 different mail forwarding forms.

And we wonder why the cost of stamps keeps rising........

Wait, so both times you called they said you need to fill out the forms?

They probably have to follow government processes so they have documentation you want the change. They don't want to be liable if they change it based on your convo, then you call and say they did it wrong. Changes in the system are most likely trackable.

Sure it sucks but it sounds like they are following the rules in order to keep their job.

According to 5 USPS documents I have here in my hands as well as 3 different USPS employees (of the 5 I've spoken with), I shouldn't have to fill out 4 forms to make 1 change, and should be able to just call and make the correction to the forms I had already filled out.

It might have changed but the postmen don't know, or have just been told to call the number. Or maybe it says to call the number so they can tell you to fill out some new forms for documentation.

Sorry it sounds like they have a rule in place, and regardless of how dumb the rule is, they have to follow it so they can keep their job and provide for their family.

I dunno, all I am saying is it doesn't mean they are dumb or lazy, it just means you don't like the rule they probably didn't come up with.

Most of the calls to the 800# are automated recordings. I only spoke with 1 postman.

I could scan the document here that says that if there is an error, you can call to have it altered immediately........

If the federal office in document and on the phone have told me that I shouldn't have to file 4 more documents in addition to my existing orders, I'd believe it over what the post office clerks have to say.
