Bashing last years DJs was so early 08. The new thing is jumping back on their nuts with the whole "...but he/she/they are getting better" tag.

unfortunately johnny it takes another 5-7 years before they're worth a shit and by then they've worn out the biscuit wheels on those vocal house or breaks records they're rocking in order to "take us back to the old school"...you know to rock that dj manny stylee boy!

hahaha...

No one reads bloggers, which is well enough because they don't have anything useful to say. Being a DJ takes rich parents. It also helps if you have a drug habit so you can socialize and meet people that might help you on your DJ path. If you don't like street drugs, prescription drugs are just as good.

We need a thread devoted to what it takes to be a DJ.

not always, i would say maybe 30% of the time you have the guy that just ended up a dj. I do know that trust funds/inheritances are a dj's best ally in the battle/time to become a dj and afford dj stuff.

now this is the smartest thing you've ever said. However, you can just have friends that have drug habits and tag along. I can see form of cooked adderol taking over the usual suspects of uppers in the future. Crackerol??!

lie..... i dont know anyone who didnt pay for their own equipment and music. my parents didnt want me to be one so theres no way they woulda paid for me to do it. i find usually the ones whose parents bought them all the top of the line equipment and did everything for them either:
a) give it up after they arent getting the amount of shine they thought they would get
b)dont really play gigs and do it at home
c)are just doing it coz its cool and arent really hardcore about it
d) their parents buy them anything they want already so this is no different

the ones that work to buy their own equipment and everything that goes with it tend to be the ones whose heart is really into it

Its not a lie at all. It might not be correct all the time, but its not an attempt at deception. Your parents don't have to buy you the gear, but if they are rich they can buy you stuff you would have had to buy yourself had you been poor, ie: car, clothes, toys... If you are truely poor you are just going to spend all your money on food, gas, clothes, sig other.

Its true sometimes people that grew up poor become DJs, but it is usually because they have a friend and they tried it out one day and got hooked. You barrow and scrap, then you get good enough to play a party and you dump the money you made if any back into your gear.

I would say that 95% of DJ come from upper middle class homes or drug based beginnings. You might have the rare musical genious, but then again you probably have rich parents that can pay for lessons. I would say 4% are GF DJs that picked it up off a boyfriend.

maybe "lie" was too strong a word...i'll settle for "untrue". I can say that when i started, being a DJ wasnt one of those things that everyone wanted to do....there was no "shine" it was just something you did if you were into music. So therefore, everyone i came up with bought our own stuff, and we borrowed each others stuff unitl we could afford our own. Back in that day going up and asking fo 800 bucks from your parents for a turntable (and trying to explain to them why you cant just use a 100 dollar turntable) just really wasnt done a lot....thats why we fucking started crews, to pool all of our resources, so we could make money to buy more equipment. Maybe its just also i grew up in an era when parents weren't afraid to tell their kids "no" and make them work for what they want.
