Well, my cats went through a few weeks of fighting and we kept having to separate them. We finally re-stocked up on the plug in pheromones that keep them calm, but at some point a couple of them started marking territory, which they have never done. Now, they've hit our couch in several spots and it seems the cycle isn't going to end as long as the couch is there.

I'm going to have to throw away my couch. This sucks. And anyone who has seen our couch would probably agree. One of the most comfortable couches ever... and I just don't see any other solution.

I'm pissed. No pun intended.

do the cats have separate litter boxes? isn't there some sort of spray that turns cats off?

He has 4 males and one female. There is no spray that is going to get those males to stop spraying on that couch. He's going to have to get a new couch. You can't spray instinct.

There's a spray that is an odor eliminator, but they've hit it too many times just this weekend. I'll never be able to get the smell out. Granted, we can't smell it... but they can. And they'll keep marking as long as it's there. I want to get it out of the house so I can maybe break the cycle before they start hitting other spots in the house.

They have two litter boxes, but spraying and peeing aren't the same thing. What they are doing is just marking territory to show who's boss.

I love my cats, but sometimes I'd be much happier if I only had the female.

Sorry to hear. Have you tried Rescue Remedy? You just a couple of drops in the water bowls. It calmed down our last stray male.

No. She just loosened it up when she jumped over it like a big responsible girl should.

Where did you get this stuff? Is it expensive?

We use these plug-in pheromones that work well for keeping them from fighting... but like I said, once the marking starts it's really hard to stop.

Rescue Remedy sells for about $15 a bottle at Whole Foods in the people vitamin section.

Ikea is pretty cheap and they have some decent stuff.

Honestly we got a great couch off of Craigslist with 1 year still left on the warranty. We have found a bunch of awesome stuff on that site for way less than we would have paid. That way you can get a couch for in the meantime until you are ready for a brand new one.
