I carry my 5 year old behind me. Lil nig doesn't like helmets... won't stop crying if I put one on him, so generally I don't make him wear it

My Roommate just wrecked his bike, he hit a piece of lumber that fell off the back of a construction truck going 80. He had on a helmet and jacket, the helmet has 2 flat spots from grinding on the payvement and his jacket was shredded to pieces, even though it was sewn together with kevlar thread. he got road rash on 70% of his body and lived.
The Hospital said more than half of transplant donors are bikers with no helmets.

People think kevlar is so amazing because it's "bullet proof". The fibers are only resistant to impact, like a bullet hitting it at high speed or a jacket hitting the ground at 75 miles per hour. Once there are other forces at play, like tumbling or sliding on pavement, it may as well be tissue paper.


And the comment about having a girl on the back of the bike to break the fall really isn't funny at all....
