![]() | biker's who don't wear helmets/jackets/pants
fucking idiots. "yo dawg it's hot outside" wear a helmet.. if it messes up your hair, bring a hat or cut off that douchebag hairdo. u fall off and knock your head, even at a slow speed u can die. wear pants/jeans and a motorcycle jacket. it may be hot, but if u eat shit while doing a wheelie at 70 on lbj you're gonna pull every piece of skin off your body that touches the ground. i know cuz it happend to a guy i knew and he looks like a splotchy burn victim it's insane that the VAST majority of bikers i see are usually breaking at least one if not all of these underlying rules of self care. i don't even own a bike and i get the importance of this issue. |

Eh, I was one of those idiots when I had my motorcycles. When I rode my Virago.... and later on my Ninja... I rode in shorts, tank tops and sandals. But I made sure to wear a helmet and gloves. HA! Like that would help anything. IF I ever get another motorcycle in my lifetime... I won't be getting a sports bike. That was the hottest freaking bike ever. Those damn farings (? spelling) basically covered the engine and funneled all the heat right onto my legs. I almost passed out trying to ride it in the summer. I will also cover up real good to ensure that if I do have a wreck I won't get road rash all over my body. But shit, I was so cute back then... a skinny 20-something girl with long blond hair... on a Ninja.

I've dropped a bike a couple of times, both going pretty slow. Still hurt like a motherfucker, though. The first time the transmission slipped when I was in first gear (it was on a Vespa), and when the gear caught the bike popped a wheelie and went completely vertical. I fell off, but luckily I had a girl on the back to break my fall so I was alright. The last time was when a truck swerved into my lane in downtown Austin. I was only going about 10mph, and had to ditch the bike to keep from getting plowed over. Even that slow, it still took most of the skin off my forearms and I had to see a chiropractor for months to get my shoulder back into shape. I've just got bad luck with bikes, and I'm a pretty crappy rider, so until I've got health insurance, I've got to give it up. But yeah, I'd never ride without a helmet.

Road rash is a bitch. And can happen at slow speeds... as you know. Riding a bicycle, when you have a wreck, other than death or broken bones... that's the next worse thing. I ride my bike at 15-20-25-35 mph... as fast as a car/motorcycle/scooter. It's going to hurt bad if I ever go down going more than 10 mph. So far I've been lucky and on my bicycle I've been going real slow when I hit ground. Quote:

<-- Has helmet, GP style A* gloves, full armored mesh jacket for summer, vented A* boots, and Dainese knee/shin pads. Never ride without any of it.

i wonder when they are going to make it illegal to ride a bike without a helmet. i don't see how it's illegal to drive without a seatbelt but it's legal to ride without a helmet.

![]() | Somebody correct me if im wrong but I believe it already was illegal in Texas to ride without a helmet then they changed the law. Now I think it is only legal if you take some sort of motorcycle safety course. If you haven't taken the course you can receive a ticket for riding without a helmet. Passengers must always wear a helmet. At least thats what I think I remember my dad telling me.
