why run during the hottest part of the day?

running at any time during 11am-7pm outside on a sunny texas summer day is fucking retarded. unless you're specifically training to be able to run in said conditions, you don't need to be doing it during that time. your performance will suffer.. you will dehydrate faster.. you will tear your body up. any of you who do this regularly, explain your reasons to me. why not get up before work and run? or.. run at like 8 or 9 in the evening? and if you wanna run during the hottest part of the day, why not do it on a treadmill inside. i'm just having trouble wrapping my head around all these people clogging around at a donkey slow 10 minute a mile pace looking like they're about to fall over from heatstroke.

it's something your body gets used too.

take it easy at first (like 20minutes) and work your way up.

i was jogging two miles a day, everyday in 90-100 weather.

I enjoy it when it's hot, like after 5 before sunset at the end of the day. I get a runner's high like crazy when it's like that. I normally jog early morning before 6am these days.

Well, I run during the heat of the day after work.

Why?

On Tuesdays, I have to run after work. I have to be done running by 8:00 PM as I need to be in bed by 9:30 PM, to wake up Wednesday morning at 5:30 AM.

On Thursdays, I run either after I ride my bike on the trainer.. or I run before a bike ride outside. If I ride my bike on the trainer... I run about 7:15 PM. If I run before my bike ride... I have to be done running by 6:15 PM.


Run before work? Let's see.

Monday morning- swimming, night- biking

Tuesday morning- I don't want to get up at 5:30 AM because I don't get to sleep until 11:00 PM on Monday night.

Wednesday morning- swimming, night- biking

Thursday morning- I use to get up and run. But I fucking hate 5:30 AM. AND I don't get to sleep until 11:00 PM on Wednesday night. Not to mention, I suck at running in the morning. So I decided to do a brick on Thursday nights.

Friday morning- swimming

Moral of that story: I hate mornings. I hate working out in the morning. And after months of 5:30 AM workouts I'm doing anything I can to avoid them. I would rather suffer in 100 degree heat, versus getting up early.


Otherwise, I always run a 9-10 minute mile. So call it donkey pace... I'm lucky to be going that fast. Shit, I'm out there doing it.

Finally... my coach WANTS me to run in the HEAT. Yep. Read it right. When I'm in Kentucky I'm going to have a full day of racing (15-16 hours!) in heat in and humidity. August in Kentucky is not cool. So I have to run in the heat to acclimate to it. Which is also why I don't get on a treadmill. I was told NO treadmill... train in the heat.


So, did I answer all your questions?

I try to run before 9 but sometimes I just cant make it out there so I end up running at 11. Shit is crazy hot and I'm drenched in sweat after. My pace slows too which is why I dont like it. But a shitty run is better than no run at all.

And treadmills blow. You dont go anywhere. I think that's more retarded than anything.

Concrete isn't the problem, shitty running form and bad shoes are the problem. There are plenty of runners that run for decades with no knee problems because they worked on their form, learned proper stretching, and wear shoes that fit their running style.

lol karen, you shoulda exempted yourself from this thread. it was mainly focused on the people who have plenty of time but choose to do their only exercising in the worst conditions for no proper reasons.

as far as eric and miles go.. i didn't really imagine people got off on the heat, but if you're enjoying it then fuck it, i just thought from the looks on the peoples faces that they were miserable. if yall like it, it doesn't matter at all what i think.

if i was running serious distance.. i'd be pacing myself around that range too. if it's only a couple of a miles, i'm tryin to get my speed down cuz i feel slow. right now if i push it can go at a 6 minute something pace for about 2 miles. i want to "eventually" get to where i can hit a upper 5 to 6 minute even mile pace for at least 5 miles.

however, throw me in the heat and my speed will drop considerably.
