Text message promotions (ON A SUNDAY MORNING, WTF?!?!?!?)

I am getting very tired of getting text messages from folks that I don't talk to often promoting themselves spinning somewhere. LOVE IT (not really...) when I get woken up on a sunday morning from someone (over)promoting something..... You know, I can understand over promoting when there are thousands of dollars on the line and getting folks there helps the bottom line, I have done it too, but when you are spinning at Barcadia on the patio on a sunday afternoon, DO I REALLY NEED TO KNOW ABOUT IT? Think that i have seen it in every post made from someone lately that the shit is going on....

text messaging the shit period is fucking bullshit. i know a lot of you brokedicks don't ever really travel, but looking at $65 in out of the country texting fees because people like to let you know about some shit gig is a bit ridiculous.

i don't mind one or two mass txts during the week for a show (I do two myself, one in the middle one the day of) but the people who do it everyday gets on my nerves.

true, mass texts are annoying but sometimes (sometimes) they are helpful. I know sometimes I am sitting around the house wondering whats going on and poof, there is my solution.

I do agree though, that the people that do it every day is overkill and un-needed. That would make me want to NOT go to the show.

But the truth of the matter is that, text promoting is an easy, fast and (usually) cheap way to get the word out about your show. It saves you time as you dont have to have a full coversation with the person (although that would be the preferred method).

What would you all say is a good way of promoting your event?

I usually just use Internet, phone calls, text and word of mouth. I guess it really depends on how big the show is

like i said... when i'm out of the country and some dumbdick is promoting jesus poses at the neighborhood juke joint, that shit is VERY expensive. more than most of you make in an hour of working at your full time jobs.
